We had our evaulation!! It went really well!! As I previously thought, Jay is not on the ASD spectrum. We will be having our ARD in 60 days, but all the news was good. Our district interdisciplinary coordinator believes he will do well in Kindergarten, despite being on the young end and is definitely going to enjoy the challenge. It put the questions to rest and we now have a baseline of testing to go on if there are any future regressions or challenges. Whew!!

I am glad things worked out for you! Congratulations!

At the very least, frightening as this might have been for you, this experience has prepared you in case symptoms appear and become problematic when he gets older.

Absolutely. I can't say I'm glad my sister-in-law brought this up, but at the same time, I am. It made me pay more attention to both of my children, to things that I otherwise wouldn't have noticed. It also made me learn more about our SpEd system, where I didn't have experience before. (Not really, other than attending ARDS for students I teach.) And it's made me so much more aware of the Autism Community and for that, I am grateful to her.

Great news! I would just suggest not closing the door on it fort he future. I was always told my son was NOT ASD by any and everyone who observed and tested him. It is very hard to tell when the kids are young, usually the upper elem will be the true test!

Good luck and hope that you have the answers you were looking for!

I'm glad it was a good experience for you. I had my son looked at several times as he was growing up, and everyone said he was just "quirky." I knew what he was, but it wasn't until this year that others saw what I'd been seeing. Of course, one major thing is that we changed from a very small, close school where people had watched him grow up and just adjusted to his "quirks" to a much larger school where they saw a wider variety of kids, and realized he was very different from the get-go.
