I just want to say the teacher who comes to our house and works with my 3 yo is wonderful (we get 10 hours a week from the state). So far, she has gotten DS out of pull ups and he is going 2 months now, with briefs, all the time with NO accidents. He is even saying "Lets go pee pee". We are working on "I want to pee pee". She is also working on reducing him sucking his thumb.

She used to spend the 2 hours a day, 5 days a week in the house working with him. Now, 4 days out of the week, she works with him 1 hour at home and the other hour at the library, that way he is able to interact with other children. With travel time, she is adding another 30 min of her own time to his session.

He now runs to the door, opens the door for her and greets her. When they are ready to begin thier work, he eagerly tells me "bye!" so he can begin. Apparently whatever they are doing, he finds very exciting. She saig he already met the goals on his IEP so they are moving on. She is more focused on his communication and social skills. She says academically he is ahead anyway. I totally agree with her.

The only drawback is that we only have her until September of this year. But I think it's wonderful when you find a Special Ed teacher who loves to teach kids and can connect with a child.

Finding a good teacher/therapist/nanny is SO rare, and SO important. Why is she leaving? It is something you can help in any way? Can she recommend you someone? I do not know what I would do if my daughter's therapist could not continue treating her. My husband and I have talked about moving if she needs to return to her country (we are NOT kidding).

Good for you. We had a teacher like that coming to the house and at the end of the year her contract was not renewed... :(

She has a contract from the state to work with my son until September when he starts pre-school. I think one of the reason why she is so wonderful is she explained that her son went through a similar program (he had a teacher that came to the house 15 hours a week) and now he is thriving in middle school with no assistance. She completely gets it and I wish she worked at the school he is going to. If I could afford her, I would keep her with my son. It's just amazing how he has bonded with her. For the first 2 weeks when he cried, she used to hold him (while still getting him to do his work). At first I was nervous and thought he would "scare" her off, but she just acted as if it was the most natural thing. Even my 1 yo hugs her when she comes to the house!

Thank you for sharing that good news! It is so nice to hear success stories from our members here! We have an OT who I feel that way about. He is a truly awesome individual. He understands kids from their point of view in a way no other teachers/therapists we have met do. Sounds like your teacher is the same, really able to understand what your son needs. I hope you can find someone similar when your time with this one runs out.

A great teacher can make all the difference. My son's regular preschool teacher was like that. She really went above and beyond to help my boy. She helped us find the right way to reach and teach him, and helped us find a preschool that specializes in ASD kids at Glenwood. He still every now and then says, "I wanna go see Ms. Kelley." I hope he never forgets her.

My son's current kinder teacher is a....mazing. She has done so much for him, he's like a different child. There are 5 months left of the year for him and I will be so sad to see the year end.
