Hello and GADS Assesment Question
Hello. I am not sure if I actually need to be here or not. What I am wondering is if maybe some of you can give me some insight? My 3 yr. old son went for an early childhood evaluation this past week. I filled out a GARS test that he ended up not falling into the category of. However, the following day the psychologist wanted to do some further testing and asked me to fill out a GADS assesment. At the end of the evaluation she came out and told me that he did fine and scored very high on the evaluation. Does anyone know what "very high" on this assesment might mean. When she told me initially I took it as a good news but then I started to think that maybe it is just a way of describing the degree of Aspergers that he might have. Please excuse my ignorance at this time on the subject. Our case conference is January 12th so I will learn more then but I am just looking for some insight on how that test is scored if any of you know and what her words may have actually meant. I guess I am just very confused and concerned at this time.
Thanks for reading and any thoughts or insight you may have.
Welcome. Is GARS different from GADS?

Well, I don't really know. Below is the response from another forum I was on and posted the same question to.
Quote: "The GARS (Gillbergs autism Disorder Scale) is a test for autism - although from what I have read it is not all together a reliable indicator.
The GADS test is Gillbergs Asperger Disorder Scale used for evaluating a diagnosis of aspergers. This test discriminates people with aspergers from those with low functioning autism. The high score on this scale is an strong indication of aspergers. I think the good news is that your son qualifies for a diagnosis of aspergers rather than Low functioning autism."
I suppose I should call our case counselor and just ask her if she can let me know one way or another before our conference in January.
I am just a little overwhelmed right now with thoughts of what may be to come. A part of me would love to have a dx to call his behaviors but on the flip side I also just want to here that he is a "normal" 3yo little boy.
Thanks for listening
it's so hard waiting for answers from all those tests....we thought our daughter was an aspie~had her tested, and even though she displayed many aspergeric traits ( scored mighty low on social skills and independent living skills), we were told she has ADD~hyperactive, impulsive type. still not really sure that i agree with the dx, but we're trying to deal with what we've been given.
