Hi

My name is Ashley Robertson and I am an undergraduate student from the psychology department in the University of Glasgow in Scotland. I have a brother who is 19 (2 years younger than me) and he has Asperger's. I am extremely interested about furthering research in ASDs and hope to do a PhD in sensory sensitivities in ASDs once I graduate in June. I am currently in my 4th year of my undergraduate degree and I am carrying out a study into sensory sensitivites in developmental disorders (particularly autism and AS). Through my study, I am trying to get an overview of the type of sensory sensitivities that are mostly prevalent in people on the spectrum. I have a questionnaire online for parents to fill out about their child's/children's sensitivities (can be any age of child) and I was wondering if any of the parent's on this forum would be so kind as to fill it out for me?

The URL for the questionnaire is

If you have any questions at all about my study, then please do not hesitate to contact me. You could do this by either posting here or you can email me at [email protected] and I'll email you back.

Finally, many thanks for reading this and I hope you are able to participate! :D

I have a question....Do you think that people with AS could answer this question for themselves...I mean,it is OUR senses you are researching isnt it?There are many adults who have AS and havent "out grown" their sensitivities.Just wondering if there is a reason you are focusing on parents?

Hi krex

If it was just up to me then yes - I gave it to my brother to fill it out just to see what he thought. Unfortunately it would take too long to apply for the ethics to use the data from the questionnaire given by people on the spectrum themselves (I have to have my project carried out, analysed and written by the beginning of March). I had to apply for special permission to give my questionnaire out to NTs (as I wasn't working with a student sample). This is why I've only been able to ask parents to fill it out (unfortunately :( ). This is one reason I want to do a PhD in the subject, as I'll have much longer and will be able to get insight from people who have AS themselves.

If you are interested in the project I can email you a Word document for you to have a look at, as personally I would be very interested to see what you thought - but I wouldn't be able to use your data.

Hope this helps and thank you very much for your question! (I should have made it clearer why I couldn't use an AS sample)

Ashley
