Well, I finally got the gift for my youngest son, the one who I suspect has mild AS. I'm also pretty sure he will find something wrong with it too. He's like that about everything. He is the most particular person I have ever met in my life. Everything has to be a certain way and he has absolutely no patience for anything. That's another reason that I'm worried about this gift. It's a prepaid cell phone. It's a nice one though, with touch screen, internet, phone, text, all that is unlimited for only $45 a month. He will insist on setting it up himself and he will get impatient or push the wrong button and then that's it, he never gets anything worth anything, everything's always gotta mess up for him, etc. I have basically insured that I will have a very stressful Christmas Day. But a cell phone is THE ONLY THING HE WANTS. Nevermind that he has six others in there that he doesn't like. HE WANTS A DIFFERENT KIND.

Oh geez.....now that's funny

Does the phone come with it's own tech support service? If he runs into tech problems, then it's not. your. fault. Besides, it's a present. Consult the Wrong Planet's own computer/science forum to sort out any potential tech problems.

Anyhow, regardless of how the phone works out (or doesn't!), have a Merry Christmas!! ! :santa:

If his passion is collecting cellular phones, I think I'd nudge him towards collecting pennies instead.

My youngest is 17 and I got her a laptop. I got my older daughter (20) a fancy espresso/cappuccino maker, and my oldest son wants car insurance and a legal tag which I'm getting him after the holidays. I got him a phone card for now though. I still need to get my grandbaby something and my husband something but I'm just gonna get my husband liquor because he's gonna buy liquor anyway so why waste that money?

Spoiled. Why in the world would you buy a cellphone for someone who already has six?

He's not spoiled. We didn't buy him those. Those are ones he's bought himself or traded things for. Those aren't working at the moment either and he doesn't want to spend what he has to to make them work because they aren't what he wants. He will make them work for somebody else though, if they want to buy one.

Think of it less as a phone, and more a consumable. It's like getting an adult a bottle of wine, it's delicious and great at first, then they get belligerent, and a month later there's half a cup of vinegar in a bottle in the fridge. Doesn't make it a bad gift. Cheers!

I love Emile's idea. In my house phones get run through washing machines, eaten by dogs, etc so they really are just "consumables". Thinking of it that way is much less stressful. Hope everyone survived Christmas. 2 semi meltdowns here--not too bad

He actually loved it. I'm so relieved. I knew the other kids would like theirs, and they did, but he was happy. And now I'm happy too because not only did he get a phone and internet anywhere, I got a way to get in touch with him when I don't know where he is and he's been gone a day or so, with friends.
