New member, HELP!

Hi, I just joined the forum and am desperate! My 19yr old son diagnosed with Asperger's is determined to join the military, the Marines, no less! Has anyone heard of how someone with AS does in the military?

Any replies are greatly appreciated.

my aspie ex was in the territorial army, and he loved it - the discipline, the rules, the knowing-where-you-are-in-the-system. he was promoted and all sorts. but i don't know much about it, being a raving pacifist, although i tried to listen when he was talking about it, in an effort to be supportive.

Yes, something like the Army, Navy or Air Force reserves or the Army or Air National Guard (Yank equivalent of the territorial army), maybe, but definitely not the US Marines!

And maybe not right now or he might be sent to Iraq!

try getting him into the coast guard.
my father is a "weatherman" (not really) but he can tell you the weather in 1979!!
he loved the weather charts, the oceanography. it's all very interesting

He was given an honorable discarge, when he couldn't cope with all the instructions given by the drill sergeants. He has been diagnosed with Asperger for a few years now, but can't seem to handle authoritian type figures. I think it depends on the person and how he can handle it.
