possible diagnosis at 12?
My daughter "kiki" is almost 12 and undergoing an eval soon. I know, late for an eval but finally found someone who does not dismiss my concerns and chalk it up to, she'll grow out of it eventually. Anyway, here's her signs, please tell me what you think...
Kiki toe walks somewhat pigeontoed, difficulty with short term memory yet good with long term, organizes all she can yet never stays organized, moderate stutter with obvious lisp, difficulty falling asleep, has a need to touch hard smooth surfaces and rub her face against them and lick them, chews on nearly anything she can, aversion towards anything like satin, silk, velvet or corduroy, difficulty getting herself ready in the mornings struggles with getting dressed, shoes on and hair brushed, I have to force kiki to make eye contact vast majority of the time, zones out while someone is talking to her; just stares past them into space with her mouth slack, gets anxious and frustrated easily and often ends up hyperventilating to the poit she has difficulty breathing, has self-abusive behaviors by biting, hitting, scratching, and pinching herself, difficulty with peers and not interacting at her age level, has occasions where she will tune everything else out and line up whatever she gets her hands on usually is descending order...
There's more than just that but those are the main things...opinions please?
Ps: please excuse my grammar, I am on my phone and its late.

There are signs of something. Maybe ASD, maybe not, but based on what you wrote, I am surprised it took you that long to get an eval. What country are you in? Is she in public school? There are sensory issues and social issues there, and signs of rigidity. How are her communication skills when talking to someone she is comfortable with? Is she rigid with anything else aside from lining things up? Does she make her own rules that -need- to be followed? Does she follow others' rules?
I hve pushed for an eval for kiki for years. With school, yes public, they'd postpone my requests until so late in the year they could not be done. I took her to several different psychs to get their opinions for the most part kiki freaked out at being there and would slam herself on the door wanting out. I had one psych tell me kiki is just spoiled, another ask if I had considered demonic possession, and another say autism is a boys disease and I need to quit wasting time.
Finally found someone willing to help and after first meeting referred kiki to TEACCH for a full eval. She went for her intake appt at TEACCH now they want to do the full eval.
Kiki usually does ok with minor day to day changes, just several or anything that throws an entire day out of whack bothers her.
(I have 3 girls, oldest and youngest both getting evals, middle girl is nt and 5mo baby boy, no clue whats written in the stars for him yet!)
I hope you did not interpret what I said to mean it was on you. It is just that her symptoms sounded like they should not have given you such a hard time.
The schools can be really bad about that, though. We had an issue where it was too late in the year and they would try to do it in the fall, not outright cancel on us, though. Often the schools do not care if the child does not present behavioral issues that the school does not want to deal with.
Sounds like it could very well be autism, to me. (not a professional)
I would sue the school for incompetence. I would threaten to sue the doctor for malpractice that suggested demonic possession and ask for your money back. What century was he born in? And the other psychs... sound like they have no freaking clue what autism is if it slapped them in the face. They should get reeducated. Call the medical board and complain about all of them. Next time bring a tape recorder and get them on record saying these ridiculous things.
