Oh yes, I do recognise this. My daughter is just the same. She talks constantly both to me and other people and to toys and dolls etc. Psychiatrist calls it compulsive and is not yet sure if she will include that in her asperger diagnose or if she will diagnose her with adhd as well because of her talking and restlessness and overactivness.

The constant talking can be awkward at times when she askes strangers sensitive questions but mainly it is just very tiring. I feel as if my ears need a rest at times. I,m sorry that I cannot offer much help except for saying you are not alone and I do know what you mean.

Good luck
Best wishes

You'll have to be more specific when you say "talking."

Is she experiencing a delayed echolalia===in that she is repeating something from the past?

Is she experiencing immediate echolalia===in that she is repeating what she has JUST heard?

Is she explaining her thoughts on the topics at hand with great detail (which is a common Aspie trait)?

Is she making conversation with other children (which should be encouraged in other places===because it is very hard for many of us)?

My 8 year old aspie talks non stop he also interupts the class and just blurts things out and talks out of term the teacher says. he sometimes drives me crazy i tell him to engage in something so it takes his mind off the conversation.

oh yes, my son talks constantly ALL THE TIME, and usually at a loud volume! Can be nerve wracking sometimes, but I am mostly used to it by now. I suspect it is compulsive, mostly he is talking about his special interest. We have worked on it with him some, saying it is my turn to talk now and then so and so and then it will be your turn again, etc. sometimes helps, sometimes doesn't. It will take him FOREVER to eat because he is more interested in talking, we have to tell him to "pause" and take a bite and then tell me about..... :D It's just the way he is. I think I would rather him talk too much to me than not talk at all.

My 7 1/2 year old DD who by most appearances seems NT has talked 24/7 since she started babbling. She literally talks all day and all night. If you ask her to be quiet, she whispers. The doctors says she's "chatty". It's not echolalia, it's more of a 7 year filibuster about anything and everything.

She usually eats little at breakfast or lunch (both at school) because she is so busy talking. Post if you find a way to slow it down!

I have never heard of the constant talking being considered echolalia, I thought that was a repeating of things you have heard, like from the TV etc. I am curious about this, we are thinking our youngest son is showing some "autistic" traits also and echolalia being one of them, but he is a sort of "chatterbox" too like his brother, but not quite as bad. He is however only 3. My oldest son's talking seems to be more of a stream-of-consciousness (sp?), meaning literally what is going through his head at the time.

My son uses a loud volume as well and it is usually about a subject of interest to him. He also talks while he is eating we have to tell him to eat in between his words and he would rather talk than eat his lunch at school. He brings most of his lunch back home because he was too busy to eat.He also repeats certain words and phrases he just said in a low whisper is that echolailia? Anyone know?

Echolalia is the repeating of certain words and phrases over and over again.

As I said it is *not* what my DD is doing. Hers is just a constant monologue, and on the rare occasion DH takes her to the store and I stay home, the silence is deafening.

I never had these kinds of issues with DS, who has AS.

Well My 8 year-old Aspie Boy talks alot......But not when I or his teachers have him focused on a task or if he is focused on TV, or computer or reading. IF he has nothing going on taskwise or in his mind, He will jump into his his favorite imaginary world, Star Wars, and just start talking to himself acting out the scenes from the Movies, or making up his own scenes in his head with the Characters....He also does this with Blue's Clues, Ben10 and his various other favorite TV Shows, and Books........He is not disruptive at school, but he can be when going out to dinner, church or other places where there will be free time that does not offer an activity to focus on......He will also try to get others to talk with him, to "join" him in whatever world he is talking/imagining about......Taking him to Church is VERY difficult.......You will hear the Preacher, "Let's turn in our Bible to Mark 5: 10-15...." then from about 10 Pews back you hear my son " Darth Vader ! !! !! I'm gonna get you with my Lightsaber ! !! !! !! !!"

It can be disruptive at times, But I am not sure what you can do about it.....
