Anyone other single parents out there who are spending a quiet NY eve with their aspies?
DS is playing lego and wants to be left alone. My friends invited me over but I reclined knowing he wouldn't be able to cope with all those people around. I really want to make this a nice evening but I'm bored out of my mind and feel alienated from the rest of the world. Is anyone out there? :?

Sorry. The holidays can be so lonely. We have to go to a party later, but I know my son is not going to last. I just hope people aren't too judgmental over the meltdown he will probably have, because it always amplifies it. I feel bad even taking him, but it is kind a social obligation situation, and he actually wants to go. It just never ends up being fun for anyone. We have our "plan B" escape procedure in place, and I'm guessing we won't last there too long, so I'm sure I'll be checking around here this evening well before midnight.

Maybe you can order some really good take out and watch a movie?

Hi Fitzi,
I so understand. I chose the path of least resistance, but now I'm stuck listening to technical specs if the star wars battle gear. :) it's ok, I've got good food and just convinced him to play a game. I just have to get over it. Thanks for sharing and I wish you a peaceful NY eve!

Do you have a friend who would come over solo?

Could you create some kind of special New Year's ritual to be shared between the two of you? It may be too late for this year, but maybe put together some kind of model or plan a movie night or something?

I assume a babysitter isn't an option?

Sorry, hard for me to come up with ideas because I am too old to have energy for New Year's Eve! :)

Thanks! I should have chosen the path of least resistance too.

Originally, when I read "NY" I thought you meant "New York" :). I normally wouldn't be so quick to suggest good take out, as I know it can be harder to find in other places. I was also wondering how your New Years could be quiet, because I assumed you were in the city. I was picturing you having to cover your ears from all the street noise. I guess I'm a little out of it today :).

I am not being informed about Star Wars battle gear, but am often being lectured to extensively about Pokemon character attributes, so totally relate!

Yes, I knew I should have made a more worked out plan for the evening. I just was too busy getting the holidays planned. Lesson learned for next year...

Having a very quiet New Year's Eve has become the tradition around here. You get used to it, and find little ways to make it feel special to you. Hope it turned out OK!
