1. Mainstream school with Special Ed Individualized Education Plan in place to help him learn to cope with social issues and self control. He is also in the Gifted and Talented Program in all subjects
1b currently 10 yrs old 4th grade primary education
2. His struggle to fit in and make friends
3. 4th grade , School Spelling Bee, he placed 3rd, when he missed the simplest word he was given he calmly went back to his seat, his entire performance was exemplary,
Proud Dad speaking
4. Trying to get the school system to understand that his behavior and disruptions were not because he was a "difficult" child but because he was Autistic.
5. He says, " Trying to keep my anger under control and not punch people. Learning is no problem for me." I would say watching him trying to fit into the school system's mold of what a "typical" and well adjusted student should be.
6. The staff needs to understand Autism in general and the specific needs of each student in particular. The system makes allowances for physical limitations and provide special accomadations for such. They need to realize that Neurological difficulties are also very real and that these kids, with proper support and help can not only do well but very often excell.
7. The sence of alienation an AS child can feel even in a crowd of his/her peers.

Question: As someone who has Asperger's do these answers ring true?

Comment: I like the nonintrusive way you have conducted this survey.
