writing sentences
i too have this issue with my son. I am told that many children have trouble formating a string of thoughts to make a sentence. the teachers complain then I lay it upon them that if they knew anything about his disorder then they would understand that they have trouble stringing thoughts together to make sentences or even stringing thoughts together to tell you something. the schools are supposed to be helping these children overcome the pitfalls of their educational bumps.. but like most they drop the ball because of the lack of education of the teachers in most public schools.. not by their fault but the schools who are to be paying for the teachers to learn about Aspergers.
Oh, but, ryansjoy, don't you know the schools "have never had a child like this before"?That's short hand for saying we not only drop the ball but the children as well. I just read that a child is diagnosed with autism every 20 minutes. Like you I think the educators need to be educated. Sounds like they're going to have more children "like this".

Aspies, the next step in evolution?
Please please please please do yourself a favour for your child and download two programs, one is called WordQ and the other is called SpeakQ. They work together and are WONDERFUL for aspie children who struggle with writting, getting thought to paper, spelling or sentence structure!
Your children can speak right? In "sentences?" They have it in them! It is just the process of using words on paper is so darn HARD!
WordQ is a word prediction program, as a child types, the program predicts what word they want to use next. It is really really good, and learns their vocabulary the more they use it! So, the child starts writting, " I " and the program will give them 6 options to follow, like "like' or "go" OR "WENT". Lets say none of these options is what the child was thinking, so they press the first letter in the words they want to use, and up pops the 6 most likely words that begin with that letter! The computer keeps trying to assist, until the child finds the word they are thinking of. But, the best part is, when you need to put those little words in, the ones Aspies seem to struggle most with, WordQ is almost always bang on.
So, "I go store" becomes "I am going to the store" almost like magic!
But, it gets even better, there is a very easy as pie voice recognition program on the software that can be installed, 'speakQ" and it reduces the need to type, all the child has to do, is talk and watch the words be written! Then the program reads back what they wrote, and corrections can be made. Again, the more you use it, the better it gets, learning your childs vocab and speech patterns!
There is a free 30 day trial for both programs at www.wordq.com The only problem is SpeakQ won't work with windows vista... yet. They should have an update by end of month however!
My 12 year old has been using these programs for 2 days, I can't BELIEVE the difference!
All I can say, is if they work, fight to get the programs at school!
Best of luck!
I got more helpful software today! I posted it on my software thread, but I think another program to look at may be Clicker 5. It allows a child to write sentences using words OR pictures. It is for children up to grade 6 mostly, however children a little older may benifit from it as a remedial program, or with some of the report presentations you can create with it.
Anyway, I posted all about it and the link to the site about it here:

Best of luck!
