eBook: My Aspergers Teen
I am wondering if anyone has downloaded this book and if so has had any success with it: My Aspergers Teen by Mark Hutten M.A. It is a downloadable eBook designed to help parents of defiant teens with Aspergers. I sounds pretty good but haven't been able to find any reviews about it (other than the ones on their own website.) I am looking for a good resource to help with my 13 year old who has AS and also some mood and anxiety issues. I have read the Explosive Child and my son is currently in therapy, but I feel I need more resources because his emotions/behaviors are getting more extreme as he is going through puberty. Thanks for any information you can provide.
I have not downloaded the book, but in perusing the website, it doesn't look like they are offering anything unusual that you can't get from books on AS at the library. I have learned to be skeptical of autism websites that ask for money up front; at least you can flip through a book at a bookstore.
There's lots of information here on this board if you do a bit of poking around. I have an 11yo, we're heading into puberty and, while we finally got things to a point where we're all OK, I'm sure puberty is going to mean changes.
Hopefully, someone will have more firsthand experience with this book and can offer you a review - otherwise, why don't you post specific issues here? Lots of parents here have lots of different experience; I'm always grateful that I can come here with a question and get a variety of responses and perspectives.
This may be useful for anyone looking at purchasing the book. In desperation I got it looking for any ideas. I'm open to anything short of Voodoo ceremonies.
The book is really sensible advise about dealing with all teens. Setting boundaries etc and step by step processes to follow. Nothing really out there or new. I'm practicing the process and it's ok. I'm not sure it really focuses on dealing with PDDNOS kids but I figured that there is so much overlap in behaviours that it may be useful. There are things that I'm not sure about in that the book almost seems to be a how to deal with teens in general book. My 12 year old who isn't on the spectrum responds well to the techniques, which is good as all kids need to know where their boundaries are. So do parents.
I'm afraid I had lost mine somewhere along the line as our family became more chaotic as my daughter hit puberty and threw up a whole new set of interesting things I hadn't counted on.
