School districts are different around the country and they have different criteria for placement. Indiana they had single level classes that were based on location. Then they had small classes with peer friends. In California, there was a single school with a graduated preschool program. The 2 lower levels were self-contained and had various disabled kids in them. the highest "functioning" class was bigger and had peer friends, the teachers were trained in Integrated Play Groups. It was great.
