Is it abuse when a child is spanked (several times and sees stars) because they didn't defend themselves?

This child got beat by the parent after saying they didn't hit back another child. The child that didn't hit back, had Asperger Syndrome, and had a speech impediment.

The Aspie child was told to comit vandalism in someone else's yard (pick their flowers without asking). The Aspie child said "No" because they were taught that vandalism was wrong.

The Aspie was hit several times by the other child who told them to commit vandalism.

Both children are six years old.

it is abuse, but not sure how far you can go with this............my daughter , at the age of 2 1/2 was sexually molested at daycare by an 8 year old boy who also attended this family daycare..........i went to the police and DCF, and ws told that there wasn't much they could do about the 8 year old boy due to his age...the entire investigation turned into an investigation of my daughters daycare provider rather than of the individual or family of the individual.

It is definately abuse!

Ster, I agree, if it is between children there is usually not much you can do about it, but I don't think this was...

It sounds like the Friend said: Lets go pick some flowers!
Aspie said :No, I will not!
Friend proceeded to hit Aspie Child several times!
Aspie Child returned to their parent, and was spanked to the point of being beaten by the parent for not hitting the friend back!

I think it is absolutely outragous! I would in a heartbeat call CAS over that one. Maybe something could not be done, but if it just got the parents on the radar, that would be a good thing!

Was this beating in public? Did anyone else see it?

There is spanking, which I am not a huge fan of but I am not a radical "no spanker" like some people. Then there is beating a child under the guise of "spanking". That is what I think this falls under! It also seems like this child should have been rewarded for both their not participating in flower picking, and walking away from a fight, not beaten for it!

Grrrr!

I would say it is abuse. It sounds like the child was spanked severely not just a whack and that means the parent was out of control so that is abuse. I would report it if that is possible and something should be done. Today kids call the police all the times on their parents for getting smacked (even when they deserved a good smack) and the parents get arrested so I would hope in a case that is real they would do something.

I agree with the others, it is abusive and sounds that intervention should be made. Having been in a position as a "care giver for minors" Iam aware that in the States I was required by Law to report suspected abuse. This sounds like a case I would have reported. Let the authorities step in. Sounds like the parent needs therapy and you may prevent much worse from happening to the child.
