I don't feel you've given enough information on your son, the program you are considering, or your son's thoughts on the options. Given the different issues both my children have experienced I will say this: any decision has to be one your son agrees with.

So what happened in the third quarter of his freshman year that produced anxiety and depression? What has he done since then. Is he still attending school or is he home schooled? Was his stressors that caused the anxiety and depression driven by bullying or something else? What are his goals after high school?

Still the same son? ;)

How is he, did he finish high school externally? Is he preparing to do it? Did try therapy? Did he have his time off to rest?

I would be wary of recommendations made by educational consultants, any place that claims to treat multiple problems and diagnoses, places that charge a ton of money but will not let you see all areas of the campus, any organization associated with the troubled teen industry or boot camps, any place in Utah *where the rules protecting your kid are skewed*, religious schools that don't have to be certified or licensed by the state, schools outside of the USA in places off the beaten path like Dominica or Belize etc, places that restrict private contact between you and your child...

Be careful please.

Thank you for all the advice/thoughts on this. We found a program that will allow him to finish his high school credits taking classes at the local community college. He seems excited to try this as it's giving him a second chance allowing him some independence as he is 18 and just recently diagnosed. He has ADD as well and will be allowed extra time testing. We recently found an excellent psychiatrist for him. His ASD would have been termed Asperger's but that no longer exists apparently. It's been hard for him to accept this at 18 so a therapeutic school was definitely not what he wanted anyway. Too restrictive and I agree with him when he says he wants to move forward not backwards. Thank you again for the insights.

Thank you for the update. The community college sounds like a solid option. I wish him all the best as he moves forward.
