That link tells the AHA recommendations. Note they give figures for omega-3 fats and fish oil will not be 100% omega-3.

I'm an adult male and I take 6 grams of fish oil daily. Which
works out to 6(180 +120) = 1.8 grams of omega-3 daily. I think thats more than the 1 gram daily the AHA recommends. My 5 year old nephew takes 2 grams of fish oil daily (600 mg omega-3). But his parents also buy omega-3 enriched eggs. They drink a soy milk that has a little omega-3 to.

I wish the put the ppm of mercury on the fish oil bottle.
Presumably vacuum distillation could remove most the
mercury compounds.

Non fish sources include flax, walnuts and omega-3 enriched
eggs. Personally I want to make some flax butter for my
nephews. Especially for my 3 year old nephew that is butter
obsessed picky eater that want/cant take fish oil. I think you merely heat butter with flax oil, mix and cool it. You need much larger amounts of flax to equal the omega-3 content of fish oil though.

My father found an interesting benefit from fish oil (I have him some to help with his dyslipidemia). He finds it has reduced his stress and he sleeps better.

I extensively researched mercury content and possible problems, and the content is so low that it should not pose a health risk. The contraindication is that people with ventricular arrythmias should not take fish oil supplements because it can worsen them.

Look for Nordic Naturals fish oils: http://www.nordicnaturals.com/. You can buy them online or most health food stores will have them. They're very pure and are available in capsules for chewing or just the oil to pour on a spoon, and they're flavored. Get as much fish oil into your kid (or you, if you're who you're writing about) as possible. You can't OD on it, and the benefits are immense. Other essentials: calcium, magnesium, zinc, all the B vitamins, vitamin C. Again, you can't really OD on these (too much magnesium can cause diarrhea, but other than that...). There's a great cal/mag/zinc liquid by LiquiMins (http://www.traceminerals.com/products/calmagzinclq.html) which has a coconut-y flavor. KAL also has a cal/mag liquid that is delicious. There's a line of vitamins for kids on the spectrum, called Brainchild Nutritionals (http://www.brainchildnutritionals.com/B ... d_Nux.html). These are liquid, and you buy two bottles, one of which is minerals, the other vitamins. They're a bit expensive, but they're loaded with good stuff, and kids on the spectrum really need it, especially if it's hard getting them to eat.

what are the benefits? My grandson is just starting to take the omegas.....I don't know if it's wishful thinking, but I thought I saw an improvement in him already. He "acted out" a meltdown....like he was joking. Then just went on him merry way....

This is something I have wondered about for years. I live in England, so anyone who knows a make of omega 3 which is good, please let me know. I am confused about omega3, omega6, 9 etc, which should you give your child. And should they have a good multivitamin? Does zinc or iron make a difference...my son has terrible black circles (as do I) under his eyes?? What causes this.

Also, when you do start taking them...when do you notice a difference. Sorry about all the questions, and that I am no help to anyone!! !
