It's near the end of the school year in Autralia.

My 7 year old (UbbyUbbyUbby) has been really good over the last few months, but a couple of weeks ago reverted to constant meltdowns and vastly reduced appetite.

Lucky us - my Mum lives near the beach. So we sent our 7 year old son to Mum's for 1 week. No point in him being at school when he's exhausted.

He's had a fabulous time with my parents with a bonus Aunty and Uncle to play with.

He's been eating like a horse and smiling!

Thanks Mum (NannaRob).

Helen

Was that supposed to be helping you? I thought having UbbyUbbyUbby was a gift to me. Do I have to give him back?

Could it be the heat that caused the trouble? It's very hot and muggy where I live and I'm finding it very difficult to cope with the weather. Tiredness isn't so much the issue but just feeling irritable and getting teary-eyed very easily is.

It's not the heat, it's the end of the school year.

My 7 year old is the same - we start getting lots of calls from teachers towards the ends of term and especially the end of the year.

We just had a quick holiday at Surfers Paradise (For non-aussies: the best beach suburb) - took a break in school to do it. He's back at school now so it will be interesting to see if he does the last 2-3 weeks without a problem.

Well, it could be the heat AND the end of the school year.

My 9 year old is also teary, grumpy and sensory stuff is full on at the moment.
I think he is tired and the weather ( hot one minute cold the next lol we are in melb) and then add to all that the anticipation of a new class, new teacher new friends(or lack of) next year.
Then lol we have this thing called christmas cheer, where every one is running around doing stuff, changing routines, worrying about money, prezzies etc....

Wow over load to the max.
J's OT couldn't do a thing with him yesterday it was so bad, his focus wasn't there his ability to follow a simple direction was out the window.

Any ways good luck guys specially good luck to all the end of year tired aussie little ones. At least hopefully parents and kids can have a long deserved holiday, before the next school year.

Yeah, it's also called "mango madness" up here or "the silly season". People are not just irritable, they are often finding it very hard to maintain a very long attention span, and this includes most of the NTs I am working with.

Wow! Aussie!

I do have a bone to pick with Gbollard. Obviously you haven't been to the Sunshine Coast! When you do come you will agree that it runs circles and spirals around the Gilded Coast!

Sunshine coast is north of Brisbane right?

I haven't taken my kids there but I went when I was little.

You're right... It's probably at least cleaner than Surfers.

We were at Surfers and it was beautiful and my wife said "wow... the most famous beach in Australia" (she's a Kiwi) - I said "No, sadly... BONDI is - and it's nothing compared to the Queensland beaches".

Bondi beach is famous but not always for good reasons. Swimming in the sea around there can be going through the motions.

Yes... I used to say "swim between the turds"

Of course, they've got their sewerage sorted out now with a new pipeline that goes a lot further out but in all honesty, it's just not such a great beach. I prefer ones like those at Port Stephens where there's miles of mostly "wild beach" or interesting ones like Merry Beach and Pebbly Beach which are full of Kangaroos.

Being at Townsville, you probably have some much better beaches but aren't they full of box jellyfish or crocodiles?

Yeah, we have a fair few jellyfish and a large crocodile has been sighted on the far end of the strand. I don't go swimming in the sea because I worry about getting stung and getting sunburnt. The jellyfish even get into the net enclosed part of the rockpool.

I never wanted to swim in the rockpool again after seeing a poop on the shore. Hardly anybody seemed to notice it and a man with a baby was walking near it. I was too scared to warn him but fortunately, they steered clear. I thought it could have come from the pool and worried about getting germs.
