Hi, I finally got a diagnosis for my son that really justifies what I've been saying/thinking all these years. Well he is almost seven, but ever since he was a baby I knew something was different. The diagnosis was PDD-NOS, ODD and previous dx of SID. Also likely for ADHD. His preschool and kindergarten teachers would always say "he's fine" when I expressed my concerns. One said "I've seen kids with autism and he is not like that." I still believe he has Aspergers, and that eventually they will "upgrade," so to speak, the PDD to Aspergers. The neuropsychologist did not want to say aspergers because he has eye contact. I was just glad to finally now have a concrete reason for his behavior. I always knew the things he did were beyond his control.

His new 1st grade teacher this year has noticed some things with him. She's noted lack of eye contact (interesting), not understanding personal boundaries (he kisses and hangs on kids) and he has an obsession with "dark" themes, which is a little disturbing. She is absolutely wonderful and seems to really be taking an interest and doing what is best for my son. She's taken the initiative to pair him up with kids and tries to get him involved with the other kids on the playground. She is trying!! !! My son says he hates her because she makes them work from the moment they get into class, and they have no play time. "She just makes us work all day." His perspective on things is very different, obviously.

I'm glad to find this board and look forward to hearing and learning about other kids like my son, and parents who can relate.

Hello and welcome to WP!

I have 3 sons - 2 diagnosed (aged 9 and 7) with Asperger's and my youngest (aged 4) I suspect of having Asperger's but haven't sought diagnosis yet.

My second son was initially diagnosed with PDD-NOS, but then had his diagnosis changed to Asperger's.

Regards
Helen

while i'm 27 yrs old and have aspergers, you can have eye contact, it's just that it is very short periods of eye contact though. like perhaps for 30 seconds then no more eye contact. i hate having eye contact, cause it hurts my eyes to stare. and even wiriting this i'm not even really looking at my computer, since i know where all the keys are mostly. Anyway welcome to the wrongplanet forum :0).
