Can anyone please recommend a good school for aspies in the UK? I am desperate, as the state system has been failing my boy since he started education at 4.5yrs. He is now nearly 10yrs, and after years of fighting i dont think i have any fight left, or indeed any options!

I am willing to pay private fees if it is going to help him reach his potential. He is exceptionally bright, when channelled in the right way and things are done in sympathy to his AS.

I dont care how far it is, costs really need to be under £20k as thats what i earn! Specialist autistic schools are a no-no as you need to enter via a local authority (some chance of that!) and i think they seem for more severely autistic- not really suited to my boy's needs. Boarding would suit him very well,as he likes continuity and the current disruption of travelling over an hour each morning and afternoon by bus is sending him (and me!) potty!!

Any help or advice gratefully received!

In US if you can prove district failed your child, you can request district pick up the tuition at a therapeutic school. Children are in out of district placements to the tune of 40K or more a year for the very reasons you're stating. Every child is entitled to a FAPE and if this isn't happening, he needs to go elsewhere.

i am going thru tribunal case in UK now to try and prove just that! However it is very hard when you have an education authority on the other side who are experienced and trained professionals that are paid to deal with this time after time. I know i won't win, but i am just proving a point...

Once that is over i want him out of state education and into something else. I just wish i could quite work and teach him myself! Ho hum...

Or should i move to the states?! I know i said i'd considered anywhere, but i never thought about emigrating!?

Whereabouts in the UK are you? If you're anywhere near me I might be able to make some suggestions.
