Hi! I took J and another child to the zoo yesterday, staff were extremely helpful. They informed me that here in Australia a child with a disability is usually entitled to whats called a companion card.
The adult with the person with the disability can usually accompany the disabled person (for want of a better word) free of charge.
This card is available in Australia, Im not sure about other countries. I google searched it and there are forms to be filled out, but it entitles the card holders companion to free entry to hundreds of places including public transport, the movies, the zoo etc.
I just thought Id share this information, every little bit helps.

P.S By the way for anyone in Melbourne if your child has a disability health care card, they only pay $5.50 for Melb zoo and the adult with them gets in free.

cheers Aurea

Haven't heard of anything like that here,Ster. Would be a great idea though. It seems that all we do is swim against the current of professional opinion and ignorant preconceptions about our kids. Oh, well getting ready for another go round with his school and guess I'm feeling a bit tense so I won't continue in this vein.

Aurea, one of these days I would love to bring my family to visit Australia. Catch ya later.
