I tried to write our first social story the other day and I suck :( :(

Lol. J argued with me the whole time, thats not what so and so said!
No, then I sat here and you sat there!
Details, details details. Hmmmm how do I get around this? I thought these stories had to be fairly simplistic but cover all points. When I tried this it resulted in a melt down because I hadn't included enough detail. Help!! ! I want to do them but can't get it right.

If my son were asked to write stories, he'd meltdown. There were too many choices for the story. It's not close ended like math.

I know home schoolers who just tell their autistic spectrum kids to skip doing those assignments because they need to be up for the rest of the lessons. The kids eventually write what they need to when they need to. It's more natural.

maybe keep him from realizing you are using real examples? so instead of a story about Joe asking to sit next to him on the bus, it because a story about fictional Peter and Rob

Depends a lot on age but for age 5-7 the story should be a maximum of 6 pictures with a single sentence underneath each.

I can't give you advice for older kids though 'cos I haven't got there yet.

We role play, sometimes with hilarious consequences because my son likes to goof around. They used social stories with him at school and he would get all of the answers correct, but he would not apply the lesson to real life.

He is much more likely to use something that we act out. However, I think I should start writing down what we act out, so he can read it later. I never thought about to do that. doh!
