How do you deal with it?
Specifically – getting shots, eye drops to dilate eyes, orr any other necessity that can trigger a meltdown?

This is a really useful article written by an Aspergers person, gives you insight to whats its like having the meltdown and what we can do to help someone who is experiencing one.

I can't stress it enough...but, my son became terrified of doctors, hospitals, etc...after a horrible encounter at a local hospital where we live...With so many tests being done on him, he has asthma, etc...I thought I'd never get over the nightmare of holding him down, etc...Well, I taught him to meditate and take deep breaths when he was stressed...He's only 6...

Last year, we had to take him to get some blood work done...I was terrified he would go balistic again...instead, here's what he did...

He sat down on the chair where the nurse told him to sit
When he saw the needle, he said "ok, take a deep breath...ahhhh...now say OMMMM..." hehe

The nurse just looked at me like I was from mars...but you know? It worked...and so, that's what he has done for about 6 months now...little by little he has been less and less afraid of doctors...to the point he went to the dentist, he grinds his teeth and had broken one and the dentist did ALL of the work without ANY anesthesia at all...and he walked out happy as could be.
