Hitiing poking punching
Hi is it part of AS to want to grab or poke other kids. My son is doing great academically, but about once a week he does something like bashing two kids head together or poking someone in the face. He always says he did it because he wanted them to stop talking. Is this a response to being overwhelmed? He definately does not have the problem of being bullied, most of the boys are scared of him.
I wouldn't say its a part of AS, per se, but it could be due to being overwhelmed.
If I may ask, what is his age? If he is in school, how does the school feel about this? If school age, the school can do a functional behavior assessement to determine what activities trigger this behavior and then develop a plan. The plan isn't punative in nature. For example, my son was acting out in his art room. It was determined that it wasn't art, or what he thought it was (ie the sound of colored pencils on paper) but due to being overstimulated during lunch--the activity right before art, and then being sent over the edge by the sound of the art chairs scrapping on the floor. After some trial and error, we fixed the issue by putting felt pads on the feet of the art chairs (to cut the noise) and giving my son a chance to sit in a quiet room between lunch and art to destress. This whole discussion assumes you are in the US. I know Canada has similar educational laws but I know nothing about other countries.
