In regard to the comments following the article, I'm amazed at the amount of ignorance displayed by people who think an autism diagnosis is just a cover for bad parenting. They clearly have NO IDEA what goes into an autism diagnosis. Even more compelling are the people who don't think special needs kids should be integrated. The staggering lack of compassion and the eagerness of people to marginalize any kid who isn't their kid is elitist and disgusting. As for teachers, anyone who wants into the profession now needs to realize that both the law and basic human decency demand that they be prepared to teach EVERYONE. If they can't handle it, they should do something else.
