Which do you think is better for diagnosis?
Plan A: multidisciplinary testing which includes OT, Speech and Language, sensory processing, social skills and I think IQ. 150 a visit if insurance doesn't cover. It will take 3-6 visits for a diagnosis, but it's only an autism eval.
Plan B: sessions with a psychologist that deals with educational issues and special needs kids. Can diagnose without testing, will fill out checklists and surveys, she will talk to her and then decide what she thinks is going on. 100 a visit and insurance will only cover 25%. 3-4 visits. Can diagnose ADHD, learning problems, autism and more.
I can't decide which is better. One the one hand, if we go with A, it will all be done IF she gets the diagnosis. But if she doesn't, we'll still have to get her evaluated for adhd. Plan B would make more sense then, but it doesn't include motor skills, sensory processing, and all that other jazz. The language eval is especially important...
Any thoughts?
We have a school-use diagnosis from the IEP team which included all of the above.
I will, say, however, that the call was left to the psychologist. The others didn't feel it was within their expertise to title it. What they did, instead, was assess exactly where my son was at within their discipline. Pragmatic speech, motor skills, etc.
The IQ test, however, was important to the psychologist's call. Many AS have highly variable IQ scores, in that some components of IQ will be very high, and others very low. NT's, I guess, don't usually exhibit that disparity.
