Hi parents,
My name is Sophia Summers and I have a teenage son with Asperger's Syndrome. It was only after he was diagnosed that I knew I had a lot in common with him. I secretly knew that I had many of the same difficulties. It wasn't until recently that I was diagnosed with Asperger traits. I truly believe that my Asperger traits have given me a unique advantage to helping my son throughout the years.
I so wished that I would have had some form of reference to help me through all his stages growing up, but I had to go it alone. The frustration I felt prompted me to write a book about our experiences. One of the most important part of writing the book was to include the various coping skills we used. It's entitled "Asperger's - If You Only Knew".
On a downside, I haven't had the courage to properly market it because I can't seem to get past the pressures of making appearances on talk shows and such. Especially since the book is so candid. Even though it makes me feel exposed, I take comfort in the knowledge that others will be able to benefit from our life's experiences.
I'm wondering if any of you have read it yet and if you can give me some honest feedback. It's available to order from many online stores. You can google it under the book's title or under my name. You can also place a request with your local library to order it.
I wish you all the best and hope our experiences will help.
