Just wondering if any Mums have ASD toddlers that do actually use some Imaginative play ?

I know they are all different, but do all/most kids with ASD have no imaginative play, or can they display some albeit a small amount? I was just under the impression that ASD kids don't usually do this? (and a little confused!)

Can someone enlighten me please :)

Yes, ASD kids usually engage in imaginative play, but they don't usually engage in dramatic play. But it's not a hard and fast rule. IMO, Asperger's is not so much a total disability as a learning disability, so with the right supports and education, they can learn to play like other kids to some degree.

My son engaged in tons of imaginative play. What he cannot do is transfer into someone ELSE's imagination - it has to be his own. It's my understanding that this is typical, and part of the missunderstanding that arises about AS and imagation.

Thank you for your replies in answering my q :)

My son does occasionally do imaginative play, but must be on his terms... He doesnt like it if you suggest something different. He usually wants to do the same imaginative play as well eg; with his cars, he wants mum or dad to change the "battery" or "fix engine" every time. (ever since he saw his dad change the battery and fix the engine in our family car)
