My son has been difficult to feed from the very start. He refused to breast feed, was extremely difficult to bottle feed, move on to solids and so on, and on, and on ...

Yesterday, he told me that he can find it difficult to eat because the food give him "a shock inside". He says it's not sore, and it can happen with food he has eaten before with no problems. He also said it can happen after he's had a few mouthfuls with no problems.

Has anyone else heard of this "shock" when eating, or experienced it themselves?

Perhaps he has acid reflux? I didn't really start experiencing it until last summer but it really did "shock" me. I ended up choking on stomach acid just from eating ketchup and fries. I know kids can get it, too, so maybe that's what's going on with your son.

Ah! I hadn't thought of acid reflux. I'll get that checked out.

Thanks! :)

I'm thought of acid reflux or heartburn as well, when I read your description. Good luck solving the problem.

I have to say, things like this make me SO grateful we have kids that CAN communicate and tell us what they are feeling, so that we aren't just chalking it all up to difficult behavior all the time.

Reflux sounds like something to check for, I agree there. I also initially thought of ulcers.

Could it be dental problems? Fillings? Sensitive teeth? That would cause a perceivable shock when eating some things, especially those that acidic, hot or cold.
