I haven't tried other herbs, so all I can comment on is valeriana (I think that would be valerian root). I had chronic insomnia as a child, and all my parents were willing to give me is valeriana. I know they were trying to keep the treatment natural (i.e. without melatonin or chemical sleep aids), but valeriana was just ineffective. I kind of liked the herbal smell of it, but as far as helping me sleep, it was about as effective as nothing at all. So I got the natural treatment, but still spent hours lying awake in bed bored out of my mind.

Needless to say, whenever I got a cold, I had one thing to look forward to. My parents allowed me to take a children's dose of NyQuil, which knocked me out within 40 minutes, as opposed to the usual 2 hours it look me to fall asleep.

Is two hour considered insomnia? It takes me hours. I thought insomnia technically was when you don't get enough sleep. If you are able to get 8 hours then, it could be more body clock issue.

homeo-pathic --

Quote:
Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine that treats a disease with heavily diluted preparations created from substances that would ordinarily cause effects similar to the disease's symptoms. As first expounded by German physician, Samuel Hahnemann, in 1796, homeopathic preparations are serially diluted, with shaking ("succussing") after each step, under the belief that this increases the effect of the treatment. This dilution often continues until no molecules of the original substance remain.

What would YOU call a pill that is 1GM(no more, no less) that says "Contains 1g of sugar per dose"? I know I would call it a SUGAR PILL! Doctors call it a PLACEBO! If you want to pay $2 for a gram of sugar, that is your business. Frankly, I would rather have a candybar!

OK, I've told you how I feel about this! BTW homeopathic has been confused with herbs, natural medicine, etc.... It is NONE of those! Someone simply realized that sometimes the cure is a weakened version of the problem, and decided to use what they considered the epitome of that.

Yep, homepathy is a very old scam, I can't believe people still fall for it.
