Did any one else get a SERIOUS video game addiction?
It nearly cost me a future career.

Just wondering... :?:

Well, first I think we should define "addiction". If you blow of work because you just have to keep playing, you have an addiction in my book. That being said, I consider myself to being addicted to video games but I don't see it as a problem.

Yes I did. How'd you cure it? It's still tempting in the lonely evenings.

Easy, I went "cold turkey' and sold my "unaddictive" games to people (on the day i said "enougth". Then i started to play my guitar and keyboard more, do my homework, blah blah blah. It all started to fix it's self from there. :D

When I was in Middle School I used to do almost nothing but play video games. If I wasn't in school or doing something for the school, I was either in my basement playing Final Fantasy, or at my friends house playing Soul Calibur. Haha, yeah it was pretty bad, it got to the point where my eyes turned bloodshot red for a while from staring at the screen for hours on end. I don't really know when I stopped being completely addicted. I just kind of woke up one day and realized there is more to the world than video games, Granted, not much more though. ;P

I used to, but I quickly get bored and move on. Now I'm addicted to WP and I'm trying to shake it.

In reality, as long as it doesn't interfere with your life, then its just a harmless hobby.

There are guys that will sit in a little boat on a lake all day long getting sunburned to skin cancer certainty all to catch a fish that they end up throwing back anyway. Now you wouldn't do something like that unless you were seriously addicted.

Do you feel happier now not playing games?

Ugh. I tried that, and felt the withdrawels the entire time. (three weeks was it? I even had different stages of withdrawel. :? ) Naturaly, I went back to playing daily, because it's a way of life for me. Not playing makes me feel... strange. I'm not a severe addict though.

As long as it isn't so severe to make you quit your job, videogames addiction is fine.

I prefer to call it an "obsession." I've always been interested in computer/video games... not just playing them, but designing them as well. My goal is to have a career in the game industry (if possible.)

It's entirely possible, but often requires moving to a different state. I know people who've made it in with almost no experience at all, and other people who made it in with really flashy maps in their portfolio, even though none of them were finished.

It helps to hang out in a chatroom/forum where other people mod the same games as you. Not only can they provide constructive criticism/assistance/links/assets/etc., but a lot of modders these days have pro jobs, and it helps a lot to have a friend in the business to help get you in.

Video games can get really addictive when playing on a good HDTV. Wii/PS3 look super sharp on my Sony CRT.
