At the very soonest, I would expect a replacement in about three years.

There's some information (unofficial but from a reliable source) that the next Nintendo system will be out in 2011.

I've recently gotten my hands on a Wii and although I don't have a 360 or PS3, I find that I must vouch for the Wii. The controller is intuitive and fun to use (albeit sometimes a bit unresponsive) and the games make great use of the specialized controller.

Right now I only have a couple of the launch titles (Wii Play, Wii Sports) and Rayman: Raving Rabbits, but since these games come with somewhere around a total of 100 unique minigames, they're certainly worth the money. I've got nothing to say about the other Wii titles but if you've played and enjoyed games like Mario Party with short, but rather fleshed-out minigames, you will undoubtedly have endless hours of enjoyment with the launch titles alone.

That aside, a short Rave about Rabbits. With tons of different types of games to choose from, and plenty of minigames in each category, the variety certainly doesn't fall short on this one. The rabbits are suitably psychotic, and from their very distinct rabbit battle cries to their comical use of plungers, they'll have you laughing nearly the entire time you're playing. The aforementioned control annoyances are demonstrated wholeheartedly in Rabbits, so I suggest not playing alone unless absolutely necessary to keep from focusing too much on the gameplay and becoming frustrated.

Although a large time sink is involved in playing through the story the first time around to unlock all the games, once that's done so long as you have friends around to rave with, you'll have a blast.

Overall I reccomend the Wii to anyone who enjoys playing console games with *cough* real life friends/acquaintences, because it's just not as much fun making a fool of yourself without someone else around to join in.

Nintendo has announced that their next system due to the economic situations will be an enchanced version of the Wii, (In other words most of the games will play on the Wii, although some features may be crippled like high-resolution and hard disk save two planned features for it's successor.)

The successor is actually planned a little earlier than 5 years, in hopes of extending the platform's lifespan. It will have roughly the same processing power, but a more powerful video card to run higher resolution and a built in hard drive in addition to the SD card slot. They may remove the enhanced video by release date depending on if they can get game developers to back it. (Game developers are already not bothering to check the wide-screen indicator on current Wii games.)

Unless you have a screen over 27" there will be little graphics quality improvement, since the Wii is the only system to deliver full quality graphics at EDTV resolutions of 480p. (The other two systems radically drop texture quality in 480p mode, for some unknown reason.)

They are also releasing an enhanced version of the DS which won't have the backwards compatibility of the GBA removed in favor of digital camera capability, music playback, built in web browser browser, and a thinner more lightweight design. However, there is otherwise little change in the hardware, meaning no games will require it other than supporting the feature of the camera, which is unlikely to be more than an optional function in any game.

I had the same question. If I were you, I wouldn't buy it around Christmas. The price went from $200.00 to $300.00, which wasn't even the bundle Wii.

I think the Wii is a pretty good console to get. Its fun and can help keep you in good shape :D

I recommend Wii Fit and Carnival Games. Both are great fun :D
