the ds has some great looking games out in Japan,so would recommend having a look at play-asia.com to see what think [make sure the games have english text if are ever going to buy any,as the ds is territory free or whatever its called]./
even though its partly territory free, sony banned importing of their games and consoles [at least in europe they did,not sure about us] so cannot get hold of the better jap games.

Are those Japanese games different titles? I've seen some Japanese DS games on Ebay and they were super expensive like $54 but that was for an HP:Order of the Phoenix which I have the US version of and its a crappy game.

I use the PSP for music. I don't like many of the games for it. They don't interest me.

DS... unless you like shooters.

I likes the looks of the DSi.

How do others feel about the two portables?

i wish i had the ds for the chrono trigger remake but not many other games interest me (the castle-metroid games don't look that fun).

i have a psp that i had a friend mod for me. games i like: ace combat; god of war; street fighter alpha max 3; guilty gear; kingdom of paradise; the final fantasy remakes (though those are also on the ds); burnout; maverick hunter x (great remake of mega man: x); castlevania: the dracula x chronicles (great game and remake but i still love castlevania IV's gameplay the best of all the sidescroller titles).

also with the mod, i threw emulators on there and a bunch of old school roms.

and also i can put movies (in mp4 format) and comics (in jpeg format) on it for viewing/reading (no mod needed for that).

edit: just a quick note. i'm not a sony fanboy and the psp is my first sony product (owned an xbox instead of ps2 and nintendo before that and 360 this current gen).

In my opinion, I like the DS far better.

When the DS first came out, I thought it was a little too gimmicky to succeed against the power of the PSP. But I think now that that touch-screen feature makes the DS a more fun gaming experience. Plus, I'm a Nintendo loyalist going back to the NES, and I want to get a DS for the Mario, Zelda, and Metroid games.

In my opinion the DS is superior to the PSP

Reasons why I believe this.

1.) Moving parts- Moving parts are ok for consoles, computers, and so on but they are not that good for handheld because moving parts have an increased risk of breaking compared to devices with no moving parts then when you factor in your putting it in your pocket and so forth it just screams disaster.
2.) Open Screen- I don't like the fact the PSP doesn't come with something that is convenient to protect its screen from scratches, dirt etc.
3.) Battery Life- I like the DS especially the DS light because of the long battery life, it is just amazing how long the battery lasts, sadly the PSP because of its graphical abilities, moving parts and so on has a pathetic battery life.
4.) Games- The PSP games just don't interest me that much I would much rather DS games loads of them interest me like Meteos, Castlevania order of Ecclesia, Advance Wars Day of Ruin, Elite Beat Agents.
5.) High Quality- To me Sony don't make quality consoles or handhelds, Nintendo does and I would prefer to stick with Nintendo.

I have a Nintendo ds I rarely use. If you don't like the games don't get it. Honestly I don't like how they look or anything.

Stay with the DS. I also have one and it has way better games and more varied games than the PSP. :D

I might point out you can surf the Internet on the DS too. You have to buy a browser cartridge which is about $32 to do it and have a Wi-Fi connection or piggyback off someone elses but its doable.

Does anyone know if Wi-Fi is free in the US airports?

There is a new DS called the DSi that is coming out in I think August that has a camera; and you can surf the net on it without a browser cartridge. Downside is, there's not going to be a GBA port.

Wi-Fi is free in most US airports.

They also drain the battery a whole lot faster.

I've heard the web browser on it is just as bad as the previous DS one, though =/

But the built-in extra RAM might be nice for homebrew and exclusive games.
