super mario bros 3 ftw. I really don't feel that number 2 should be in there since its not really a legit mario game. Its some random other game that they replaced the sprites for.

Without a doubt, my favourite is hands down the original SMB. First got the game when I was 6, and to this day, I still have (and play) that game on a very old NES that just about works. I can run through the entire game in a few minutes but I can still get hours of enjoyment playing it over and over again. Is that an Aspie thing or is the game just that good?

I voted Super Mario World, but the lack of SMW 2: Yoshi's Island disappoints me.

Super Mario 64. The game was just so immersive and amazing for it's time.

SMB3 for me, hands down.

And for some reason, I prefer the original NES one to the SNES or GBA remakes...dunno why.

Well, besides the fact that having stationary clouds in the background makes it a lot easier to navigate while you're flying, and it's a lot easier to see the invisible blocks in some of the levels.

I'll stand up for Super Mario Brothers 2, that was a really good game. Yes, I know it was Doki Doki Panic and not a Mario game in almost any sense, but Doki Doki Panic was excellent. Of course it's no Super Mario Brothers 3 (which I voted for), but it's still fun.

For me, it's a tie between Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario 64. Both bring back some good memories. I still play both from time to time.

Close seconds for me would be Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Galaxy. Fun fun. ^_^

Something strange though, I noticed the poll doesn't have Mario Bros. (the first game in the Mario series) or Donkey Kong (the first game with Mario in it) as options...

It also doesn't have Yoshi's Island or the Super Mario Land/Wario games, or Mario Clash, or New Super Mario Bros, or SMB2J (The Lost Levels), or any of the spinoffs (which aren't exactly platformers), etc. etc.

I really liked the original Super Mario Bros. Super Mario World was fantastic too, it had some superb level design. Lost Levels is another favorite of mine.

I never liked the 3D Marios, when Mario 64 came out and it was hailed as the best game in 3D ever and I finally came around to playing it I was underwhelmed. It was just running around endlessly collecting things, which I found really dull. The game was also incredibly easy and it was virtually impossible to die from running out of health.

On a side note... I just beat Super Mario 64 100% for the first time ever yesterday. Once a long time ago I managed 119 stars, but I got stuck on one of them on that clock level. I dunno... this time through it wasn't even that hard...None of the stars were... lol. Also beat the grown up penguin and beat the third bowser again for the special message. Good times..

I have many favorites; they're all fun and addicting to play. (although they do get boring sometimes)
Super Mario Galaxy has wonderful orchestrated music, among other things. The Super Mario Land games, Super Mario Bros. DX, Super Mario Bros 3, (GBA remake) and Yoshi's Island are my favorite platformers.

I also love the Mario & Luigi RPG series. Those games are funny. :)
I can't wait for Mario & Luigi RPG 3. (coming in a few months)
