All the Legend of Zelda games have really awesome bosses, especially the 3-D ones. One of my favorites was Volvagia from Ocarina of Time. Pretty cool how the creator turned Whack-a-Mole into a boss fight against a giant flaming dragon.

Psycho Mantis: MGS1- best boss fight ever.

Wasn't Psycho Mantis that crazy boss in during gameplay, you had to 'break a psychic connection' by switching the controller into another socket...

I saw it in my Guiness World Record book gaming edition... 'Most innovitave use of a game controller'...

I'm gonna agree with you guys about the awsomeness of the zelda game bosses. My favorite boss is The Phantom Shadow Beast: Bongo Bongo. The funny thing is, I've never fought him.
Back in the days of the N64 My brother fought him and failed, many times. He didnt know how to escape the bosses crushing grip and kept dieng. then he found a trick on getting in more attacks, so he was really angry when Bongo Bongo caught him again. So mad, that he started mashing buttons. That made him escape, and he even won that time!
So sometimes its your own story that makes a boss your favorite, not the actual fighting.

I think his name was Meta-Ridley and i think it was Metroid prime. The one with the Chozo? He was the coolest.

All 16 colossi from Shadow of the Colossus.

Pokey and Gygus from Earthbound (love the music).

All of Xemnas' forms from Kingdom Hearts II.

Rhapthorn from Dragon Quest VIII.

All of Lavos' forms from Chrono Trigger.

I know there are more boss fights that I found to be epic, but I just can't think of them right now.

Update: Princess Shroob (both) from Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time.

Bowletta and Final Cackletta from M & L: Superstar Saga.

Hydra from God of War (even though I didn't like the game).

Orochi and Yami from Okami.

i have to agree that most of the metroid final bosses were my favorites, just the way to had to keep bouncing around places and shooting at different targets was fun. maybe Ganondorf in either Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time. i think it was nice when, in Twilight Princess, Zelda actually did something and jumped on your horse with you and shot arrows at him (you just had to excuse her horrible aim is all) but it was also great in Ocarina when you learned you could just run under Ganon's legs and wack at his tail from there. definitely a Nintendo boss though

I'll have to second this, even though I've never played Fallout 2. :P
