What is the game Spore about, and what is the difference between Spore and Spore Hero?

I have never heard of Spore Hero.

Spore is a Sims style game. You start as a cell, eating plankton and what not. Slowly you evolve yourself into a space faring race, conquering or befriending anyone who gets in your way. If you like Sims, you'll like Spore.

Going by that, it also reminds me a bit of Sid Meier's Civilization.

From what I heard from a friend, Spore was mostly a big disappointment. It wanted to be this big sort of cross between sim life and civilization but it it lacked depth and ended up fairly simplistic overall. I got to play the first part, where you start out as a microscopic organism and level your way to dry land. That part was fun and could have stood on its own as a game.

Zero Punctuation did a review of it that's good, though keep in mind that he is well known for his brutal (and funny) reviews.

Never heard of Spore Hero.

Spore Hero is a game for the Wii.

I used to play Civilization all the time.

Spore Hero is a version of the Spore game adapted for the Wii.
Spore itself is a strategy like simulation game based on evolving a creature from one cell to a civilization to a universe.

I bought Spore, but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

... Seriously... Return it while you still can!

It is sickeningly, awfully, abominably bad.

It does not play like civ at all. It plays more like a rusty spoon.

You will feel like killing yourself as soon as you finish the cell stage, the shortest and only fun part of the entire game.

This is only my opinion though, you might like it.

I am big fan of that genre in general, so I feel that I have nothing to lose.

Sure but be warned that it contains DRM that I personally wouldn't want on my computer. Maybe you don't mind the DRM.

I didn't like the actual game behind Spore, but I still enjoy the creation engine of the game. You basically build your own creatures, buildings, vehicles, and spaceships, like a really basic CAD program. That's the part of the game I like.

Spore is the game where you start off as cell then to creature then to tribal, Civilization then space.

If you ever played the creature stage and enjoyed it alots, then spore hero is for you, its like creature stage but with a storyline.

But overall I prefered the PC version
