In Morrowind I found out that Endurance is the only thing that effect the characters health. So I sacrifice Magicka and create either an Orc, Redguard, or Nord which has the highest Endurance. Then I get the sign of The Lady which adds a lot to my endurance. So I start out with a character that has 85 endurance to start with. I also have found a way to raise up a certain stat 5pts per level. So I can get to 100 endurance by the 4th level, and the 100 health raises the health stat by 10 each level. Creating a character this way would make him the healthiest character possible. But doing it this way takes a lot of time to train, which makes it less exciting.
I hardly ever use the scrolls or potions in Morrowind.
In Halo I toss guns forward through the levels, or walk back half of the level to pick up another sniper rifle. In Halo CE I've found a way to reload certain guns for free, so I sometimes try and keep the one gun full of ammo, even though I pass a bunch that could refill the ammo. An unlimited ammo sniper rifle is very useful!
I haven't played much of the newer games that have been talked about in this thread, but have played a lot of KotOR, Morrowind, and Fable. Anyone like Splinter Cell?
In KotOR type games, I feel the most important attribute is experience. So I make sure to visit every possible bad guy, and complete every possible quest and side quest.
In Fable I mostly go for experience, and also gold. Most of the gold I earn through trading. To help in my trading I've come up with something called the bar-line, and this one traveling trader I call Mr. Lovely (he buys gems and perfume). I also don't like the scars, nor the age idea. My favorite spell is enflame.

I found two ways to try and avoid this. One is make a character named Dumbo made specifically for fun. Trying not to care if I do the game perfectly or playing it on an easier mode.
The other way is to save the game so you know it is safe. Then go on a shooting spree, kill everyone in a town  , act very out of character, kill Vivec, or try a new strategy. Sometime trying something new can improve your knowledge of the game so that it is possible to do it the next time around.

You know, I think I've exausted myself trying to perfect my game character. I wish I had the ability most people have to just create one character and stick with it.

My problem isn't just fixing the flaws in a character, but the fact that I keep changing my thoughts on what type of character I want, yet my OCD makes me feel like I have to make a character a certain way. :(

You get to select aspects of his past that actually influence which quests are available in the game!

It also changes a lot of the dialogue, for example if you choose the war hero military background you will be highly respected. But then if you choose the colonist social background you will be blackmailed by the gangs you used to be part of.

Well I rented it but haven't been able to play it yet seeing as how I am now looking for an affordable car so my brother is happy again because I pretty much rented him another $7 game. I have rented about 20 games in the last year and I haven't been able to play at least 14 of them >,< I might as well start handing my twin wads of cash whenever I want to rent a game. My brother has explained the character system though so at least that helps.

It can take me over an hour to create my character, it's very important to me. And I'm always very pedantic while playing, I seldom make mistakes and I never die, when I do I get real mad and frustrated.
Especially in RPG games which are my favorites, I tend to be very pedantic and a upgrade freak going through every small corner and alley trying to find secret things and items (bit of a loot whore). I clear whole areas to get extra items and leave no enemy standing ever. I can spend hours in a store as well to see what will benefit my character and the other extras even higher lvl items for future use, and I notice that I spend way to much time at stupid things that slows my gaming with hours because I'm over thinking things and try different things in every room I enter.

As of now I'm playing Dragon age and it is an awesome RPG, I play as a rogue and I have this companion dog as part of my team. He was this ability when "speaking" to him he can run off and acquire a hidden item. And I have spoken to that dog more than 100 times in different locations.

It's still a great game and it trains my patience towards dying since it's quite hard and requires a lot of tactical moves constantly so you die from time to time if you rush battles and think that you will just steam roll over your foes.

I recommend Dragon Age: Origins though, real nice RPG.

Response to first post - Sounds like me when I'm trying to breed/receiver/catch a Pokemon with perfect or almost perfect IVs or trying to get an A rank in every mission in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

oh, it is :D, it is, I'm currently totally obsessing over the sequel, 64 days, 44 minutes and 3 seconds to go [as of a few seconds ago] lol

It's both. There are presets or you can edit minutiae. Mass Effect is a really good game (like most Bioware titles) and well worth the trip.

yeah, the appearance creation generally works pretty well in that respect, not as in-depth as Oblivion (you can't get truly hideous, or at least it's much more difficult to) but you can certainly get some variation, one thing I have found with it is that the light on the character creation screen makes the face you're creating look quite different to how it'll look in the actual game, and you don't see how the face will look when it emotes, which led to my surprise at my Shepard's severe buck teeth and squinty eyes :P-mostly though it works

with regard to your character's background there's a mix and match thing going, you choose what type of upbringing Shepard had (in space, on earth, in a colony) and what their reputation is within the millitary (sole survivor of a disastrous mission, war hero, or ruthless)

Whoa! You gave me a major flashback to Donnie Darko right there. I hope you're not actually a giant rabbit...

This thread is hilarious, because I'm like that too. In most games rarely use consumables like potions, and just horde everything.

Recently I got a game called Demon's Soul and it's hell for perfectionists. You're not allowed to load previous states of the game and the game is full of situations where if you make a mistake, it's permanent. For example if you fail to save an NPC, he's dead for the test of the game and you can't unlock some part of the game. There's even these little creatures that drop rare loot, but they only appear in the stage a fix number of times. If you fail to kill them, they're gone forever, even if you revisit this stage.

The game is really fun, but a challenge for the perfectionist in me.

Took me around 15 minutes to create my Mii on the Wii, but everyone else was waiting, so I had to hurry up. Then when I had the chance to play the Wii on my own, I spent around 30 minutes editing it.

In New Super Mario Bros Wii, I just HAD to visit all the mushroom item houses, even if I was loaded on items. Now, I never visit any upon completing the game again and I never use items in my backup.

Scary, this perfectionism trait from wherever it comes from.......

I'll give you a crazy example.

Final fantasy 7, playstation 1, 1998/9 whenever

I was about level 70 when I got to the end volcano which required its shield to be blasted by the mako cannon reinstalled at midgar, the starting area.

Anyway, I had a little look inside the volcano, noting that it was pretty difficult in there and that the XP was not that great.

So, I spent about 5 days or more, levelling to 99 I think, to be prepared in there..

Duh! When I went deeper, I found these magic pots? that gave 5000 xp or crazy, just for an elixir I think.....

How irritating.

Not to mention on spreadsheets, I recheck the formula and run through it with a toothcomb to make sure it works, although, this is probably a mix of avoiding trouble in the future and perfectionism (ie common sense + perfectionism)
I suppose its better to be accurate than not, especially as I can't stand grey areas!!
