There might be some dirt in the cartridge, have you tried blowing on the components, that might dislodge some of he dirt or dust. Another way I remember being done to clean such cartridges was useing something like Methylated Spirits and puting a dab on a cotenbud like what is used to clean ears and cleaning the cartridge. You might be surprised how dark the bud can come out.

Cleaning cartridges is pretty easy, and can do some major good. If every other game works in your SP, it's likely just the cartridge that's a little dirty, and not the system.

1. Obtain the following: said cartridge to clean, a "cue tip" or "cotton bud" as some call them, or any other small stick with a piece of absorbent cotton on the end. GBA carts have much less space between the connections than NES or SNES carts, so you might need a miniature cue-tip.

2. Rubbing alcohol.

3. Water, and a small bowl.

Make a 50/50 solution of alcohol and water in the bowl. Moisten the cue-tip in the solution, then gently clean the cartridge contacts, scrubbing up and down with light pressure. Rotate the cue tip as you do so, and if it gets too dirty, toss it and continue with a new one.

Use a fresh cue tip to dry the contacts when you're done, but to be sure all water/alcohol has evaporated, wait 30 minutes before playing.

That usually does the trick.

Blowing on the contacts just leaves a film of moisture on them, which makes them connect a little better.

In the long run, it's a bad idea.

So the 50\50 solution is my best bet?

Would this work for my n64 game cartridges too? They're getting old and I think they need to be cleaned. The blowing trick rarely works anymore. ):

Sorry for posting my own question on your thread. I've just needed to clean those things for a long time and here seemed a good place to ask. (:

No problem,I had some old n64 games that needed clean that were from my old n64 and were in my musty basement I used this anti corosive that my mom using on here hair clippers I think its called andis cool breeze.Yout hold the can away from the game and spray it then clean it with a Q-tip then let it rest for 30 minutes. Here is another idea.
1.Step 1-fill a small cup with water
2.dip one end of Q-tip in water then dab with paper towel, cause you want it only damp not sooping wet
3.then clean game with damp q-tip then let it dry on paper towel for 15 minutes.

There was this humorist back in Quebec who made the joke that when something was broken (and i mean ANYTHING: vinyl discs, VCR, etc.) you'd blow on it to try and make it work... <.< Then he said that when he saw our provincial minister, he'd blow (air) on him too. :p

Do you have to open up the cartridge to clean it i.e. take the screw out etc.?

I've never tried it, I always just use straight rubbing alcohol.

If your cart is REALLY really bad, I've heard it helps if you open it up and take a pink pencil eraser to the contacts...but the only carts I've had that needed that process were a little too far gone for it to help at all =/

It'll work on any game console that uses cartridges.

You can clean the cartridge slot on the console, too. It's easier if you have a kit made specifically to do it, but if you don't have one, I've found you can wrap a thin cloth around a credit card (or whatever), put some rubbing alcohol on that, and slide it in and out of the slot until it stops absorbing dirt.

I don't suggest putting water on the contacts. I once did that with my Mario Kart DS cartridge. It worked for a while, but the next day, the contacts were slightly corroded and didn't work. I put more water on it and that worked, but the next day, it was even more corroded. I did this for many days, wetting and corroding, over and over, until the contacts were literally absent. I totally ruined my DS cartridge, and it all started when I put a drop of water on it to remove the gunk. WHAT EVER YOU DO, DON'T PUT LIQUID ON THE CONTACTS!
