I love games that makes you afraid of whats around the corner and a great story that has you making a sigh of relief when you open the door and the room is safe.

Any suggestions?

Bonus points if it's on steam.

Steam you say? you'll want penumbra:overture, then pick up penumbra gold edition which comes with both penumbra: black plague and the expansion penumbra requiem. also wait a couple of weeks and you cvan pick up amnesia from steam which is made by the same duds who made the penumbra series.

F.E.A.R 2 i don't even consider part of the series, it is incredibley tame. However the 1st 3 titles in the series will have you crapping your pants form the 1st 5 min to the end of the game.

I know I was gravely disappointed with the game I was hoping by the time I got the abandoned school I was in for a shocker!

Abandoned anything that involves children has such great potential but they wasted it.

Dead Space.

Or if you don't mind the bugs, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth would be a good choice.

Great game; especially when you crank up the difficulty, turn off the lights, and turn up the volume.

I know you've asked for pc games but if you have a ps2 around you might want to try out the Fatal Frame series.
It's best played at night with surround sound or headphones if possible.

:D

I think there's some Resident Evil games for the PC. Some actaully good scary games before the series turned to crap after Resident Evil 4 turned the series into an action series.

I'd recommand Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. I used to have it on the Playstation and it was my favorite Resident Evil game. The graphics are a little dated though.

Basically you play as Jill Valentine, one of the heroes from the first game who is trapped in Raccoon City which has become infected with the T-virus that has turned the civilians into zombies and mutants. She has to fight for survival and find a way to escape the city with the help of a mercenary named Carlos Oliveira. She also has to avoid a new mutant named Nemesis, who was sent by the evil Umbrella Corporation to assassinate all the surviving STARS officers like her and keep them from revealing their secrets.

Here's some pictures of the game.

I'm repeating myself here, but yes, DCotE.

I didn't really encounter any bugs when I played through it...though it did kind of annoy me that they didn't go through too much retesting after their last-minute run button removal...I had to use a cheat program to put it back in and get through one of the sections :x

And it didn't seem like the stealth button did much of anything

I don't know about RE3, but the first two games will not run very well on modern graphics cards (I tried it on a couple of nVidias and even an integrated Intel). And I heard the PC version of 4 is just a shoddy port of the PS2 version :?

Aww, well if you have an old PS1 or GameCube you could get them. Or I think on the Playstation 3 you can download RE1, 2, and 3 from the Playstation Network. :)
