Final Fantasy VII - VIII - IX. I loved the stories and the characters different personalities, and the music was epic. I haven't played any FF for a good few years now, but the music always takes me back. :D

FFs I have not played at all:

FFVII (yeah, yeah... I never had a PS1)
Anything after FFX (including FFX-2)
FF Tactics other than FFTA (if we're including those)
FFII (I've played a few minutes of it)

FFs I have not played much of:
Most of them

FFs I've finished:
...I think I finished FFTA

That said, I really liked FFV. The job system was so wonderful. I loved it so.
FFII's handheld version had a great system for skills and stats. I really like that, too.

I wouldn't, since it has completely different gameplay and story, and is more Disney than FF. :P It's a different IP.

I would have to say between IV, VI, or IX.

I loved the characters of IV and its awesome soundtrack.

VI is just a masterpiece of a final fantasy game. Still love beating Phantom Train with just a Phoenix Down each and every time as well.

IX I give credit due to it being the first FF I ever played, and the fact that it's a bit underrated IMO. The Trance feature irritated me a bit though in the game. Why banking and saving it for boss fights was out of the question is beyond me.

For myself, XII, IV, and II in that order. They all bring an acceptable level of difficulty (II on the NES is the hardest, although the graphics are awful), But XII has the longest gameplay value and number of challenges that you can undertake or place on yourself (Like 'no license board'). IV is liked more than II because I can play through it longer, and I have it on the DS, which is very fun to play.

V.

I don't think I've met anybody that shares my opinion.

V was my fave before I played IX. Now it is a close second. I could spend hours and hours playing it, and I played it through a few times, mastering every job for every character.

V was very good for gameplay value alone...but I often found myself confused as for what to do next to advance the storyline. I needed a strategy guide (which I despise using, because I inevitably see spoilers even when I'm not looking for them).

VI. Every other rpg, we're trying to stop someone from destroying the world. In VI, we have a villain that SUCCEEDED in destroying the world despite our efforts. Like, woah. The emotional impact when you get to the second half, seeing the shattered world...woah :)

FF Tactics is good too.

IV's the only one I've stuck around with long enough to beat, so I'll have to go with that one. I never really could get into the FF series.

The only games I've played all the way through are 5, 6 and 7.
5 was quite fun, and I liked the storyline. 7 was great, and the graphics were amazing for its time. My favourite, however, would have to be 6: amazing gameplay and story, well-built characters, and beautiful music.

Final Fantasy XI, anyone?

I put SO MANY hours into that game. Probably on the order of two or three weeks worth, not including idling and selling stuff. I've friends who have managed to rack up over a year of online time in under 4 years of playing the game!

I don't get why so many people like IV; it was too fast paced and I couldn't tell what was going on in battle, and my game froze after a certain point. I play FFCC: EoT for the WiFi purposes, dunno if that counts. I've played I, III, IV, XII, and some Tactics game.

I've played all of them except for the online ones. I like IX the best, followed by VI. Right now I'm playing Dissidia 012. It helps to know where each hero and villain came from in that game.
