This thread is all about the most underrated game console ever:

The Sega Dreamcast

Image

It's my favorite non-nintendo game console that isn't a "Playstation". It's a shame that it didn't get the attention it deserved.
I still, to this day, hope that one day, Sega will go back into the Console business... haha~

some of my favorite game are:

*Sonic Adventure
*Power Stone
*Jet Grind/Set Radio
*Sonic Adventure 2
*Skies of Arcadia

I bought a Dreamcast pretty much at the end of it's on sale life, it was cheap and had some games bundled with it which suited my meagre funds. I spent hours on Metropolis Street Racer, but seemed to be the only person on earth who just didn't enjoy Jet Set Radio at all. I keep meaning to set it up again, I have a mint copy of Shenmue that needs playing. I stopped using the Dreamcast because it kept switching off, something to do with electrical problems where I used to live.

I loved my Dreamcast when I got it. I think I actually owned it before I even owned a PS1. It was a major letdown that it just got buried.

I've only played a Dreamcast once, but my favorite games are Sonic Adventure 1 & 2.

My uncle had a Dreamcast but it broke down years ago. I miss playing Power Stone 1 and 2 and Tee Off Golf.

I enjoyed the Dreamcast while I had it, but geez I hated that giant controller. It is a shame the console didn't do as well as it could've, though.

Ya, unfortunately despite the fact it was the most technologically advanced system available at the time (and really, it was just as good as the next gen of systems, the ps2 and xbox which were released ~1 year after it) it was doomed before it was even released.
2 things killed it. First, Sega Saturn. Sega burned a ton of developers with the Saturn. The release date on the Saturn was something like 6 months after the PS1. But due to rising buzz around the PS1 they pushed it up half a year to compete with it for the holiday season release. The companies developing the games got pissed off, a lot of them weren't able or ready to push their titles out that quickly. The biggest thing about that that though is they had been budgeting their game design around the big boost of sales it would get from being a release with the new console release. Releasing a game on the systems release date and releasing it 6 months after is a huge difference in sales and a lot of companies pulled the plug on their games and some (like EA) stopped all business with the Sega console division entirely.

The other of the 2 nails in the dreamcast coffin was piracy. Even though it had that special 1.2gb cd-rom drive virtually none of the games used more space than could fit on your regular 700mb CD-rom and it had no kind of protection, no need to mod systems or anything like that to play burned copies of the games. Total free for all for anyone with a CD-burner.

That being said, The Dreamcast is my favorite system and I know a ton of people who still have it hooked up next to their PS3s or Xboxs. It may not have had the array of games the public required at that time but what it did have was far superior. And even with the huge boost EA sports is to any console I've heard more than one sporting game aficionado say that Sega Sports NFL 2k and 2k1 for the Dreamcast are still the hands down best football games ever made.

I disliked the Dream Cast. The controller was awkward.

I liked the Genesis better to be honest.

Hey wait... what the crap...

I got to stop getting involved in these old school system/games/movies/shows talks.

I didn't like it that much either, but some day I'll probably have to sit down and give it another chance.

I didn't like Metropolis Street Racer at all. The graphics and real-time day/night was cool, but the game forces you to win these next-to-impossible test races every so often, and it takes me about an hour of endless failure before I finally give up and play something fun instead.

Switching off? Or restarting? Because the "random restart" issue is quite common. It's either the internal sensor thinking the lid's been opened, or the prongs that connect the power to the motherboard.

I've opened mine a few times to fidget with the prongs, but eventually it'll start acting up again. I'm almost tempted to just solder them together and see if that fixes it for good :x

I bought a Dreamcast on eBay a few months ago and I haven't been able to keep away from it. Awesome console.

Jet Set Radio is great fun and a very easy game to get into, although some people might be put off by the cartoon style graphics.

Another game I like (which I also find impossibly hard) is Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future. You'd be hard put to find another DC game with better graphics (apart from Shenmue).

I love the Dreamcast. It's the only console I've owned 8 times (long story). Just had to get rid of my old one. It died while I was playing Project Justice. :(

My favorite games on it are:

Grandia II

Skies of Arcadia
Sonic Adventure (love the soundtrack)
Power Stone 1 and 2
Giant Gram 2000 (import wrestling game)
El Dorado Gate series (import RPG)
Phantasy Star Online
Shenmue
King of Fighters Evolution

I love my two Dreamcasts! I originally just had one but one of the leads broke. Sega, being Sega, didn't design a lead that was a regular size or shape so I had to buy another Dreamcast! Oh well, at least I have a back up! My favourite games are Sonic adventure and Jet Set radio. I want some more games for it.
