Why Halo scares me.
Same. Dead Space is probably one of my favorite games of all time. A dark sci-fi survival horror shooter; awesomeness.

Dead Space is awesome. Silent Hill 2 is probably my overall favorite survival horror game followed by Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

and another note, my favourite part of the series is you find out that humans existed as highly intelligent in the time of the first flood outbreak. they were at war with the forerunners. humans developed a way to combat the flood and kill it, but lost the war to the forerunners. and the forerunners systematically removed all evidence of human civilisation. a process called deevolution.
so its the forerunners fault me have to play that game :p
That must be from the various EU novels; I'm just going by what we're given in the games. It's hinted in-game, actually, that humans might be the descendants of the Forerunners, but that's never followed up on. (For instance, the behavior of 343 Guilty Spark on first meeting Master Chief John-117, and the fact that humans seem to be able to activate Forerunner artifacts whose triggers are DNA-based [the reason why the Prophets needed a human to put the Key into the Halo activation device].)

i'm the opposite i love mass destruction senerios. games where a whole place is wiped out. like in fallout 3 or half life 2.
i honestly can't understand the fear because i never felt that fear.
but have an odd fear of my own, and it isn't just in games, warped images, pics of people that are out of proportion or warped in any with filters of nearly any kind.
i stopped watching house a show i loved to death, i watch all the previous episodes up till the one with the artist who was testing drugs for a company. it wasn't his symptoms that bothered me, the blood, operations, etc... it was the paintings he drew while under effect of the drugs in his system, i stopped watching house after that episode.
i had nightmares for several nights straight.
if something in a game, movie, pic, or otherwise does not look normal under my definition it freaks me out, this is why i hate Picasso paintings, because they are warped images.
meanwhile in fallout i can shoot a guy's head off his shoulders, or watch someone burst into a bloody gory mess, but i can't stand to see a disproportion-it image. i also hate charactures for the same reason, can't stand to look at those things.

I do not like the Flood at all(although the Gravemind is an interesting villain), and generally don't like anything horror based unless it's also funny or doesn't contain much gore. Even then, though, I find myself afraid of things in games that weren't intended to be scary at all. For example, I really did not want to have to fight the Alpha Blogg in Metroid Prime 2, perhaps because of an irrational fear of whales. :p
I find that there's more to the games than the Flood, though, and that it could potentially be possible to move the story along without them(though I think it could be neat if one somehow got to infect the Master Chief, a supposedly indestructable force and pretty much a Gary-Stu as far as story goes). It seems more and more emphasis has been put on multiplayer and other modes of gameplay, which is a bit sad and I think it would be awesome to go back to the passion of the first two games or even go beyond that and experiment with an open world or 60+ hour campaign, but at least there's been a lack of Flood. Plus suicide Grunts are awesome and hilarious.

me and mt NT lil bro are the opposite, we find alot of horror movies funny by making jokes and over analyzing things in horror movies and some games. kinda why we love nightmare on elm street movies is cause of his twisted humor in addition to our own humor.
Im pretty sure Spark confirms that Humans are a something of the Forerunners direct descendants at the near end of Halo 3. He says to 117 something to the manner of "You are their descendence, inherriter of all they left behind! You are Forerunner! But this Ring... is mine!" And he goes all psycho, and tries to zap you to death. Also, the flood dont have to just bite you to take you over, they release spores, which, when inhaled begin the process of flooditizing you. The only reason Chief made it through Halo 1, or any of the flood missions is because of his exo-suit thing, which is air tight, as he demonstrates for us by jumping out of space craft. On another note, I think think gravemind was just awesome. I love anything with hivemind involved, but the whole collective conciousness thing was just awesome. And apart from scifi, it got a bit paranormal there, the gravemind possessed huge psychic power, it was able to controll all the flood, speak telepathicly and bend cortana (a cybernetic organism is how she is described as I remeber correctly) to its will, without having any sort of corruption in her. My only real dissapointment is that we STILL didnt get a boss fight, the gravemind was a perfect candidate. The fight with spark was too easy to be concidered a boss, I beat him on legendary without breaking a sweat.
*Spoiler alert to those who have not completed the halo 3 campaign on legendary*
So what do you guys think, will halo 4 come out eventually? General 117 is in cryo, somewhere in the deep reaches of space, with cortana broadcasting a rescue beacon from the bottom half of johnsons destroyed frigate. I think there is room for another game, I mean really, maybe spark didnt die, he probably recontstructs himself, seeing as he survived the initial halo 1 destruction, which he was in the core of a nuclear explosion. Somehow Im not sure we saw the end of johnson either. If you beat halo 1 on legendary, you saw him and an elite fighting over an assault rifle, and then noticing the autumn exploding, proceed to set aside there difference and hug eachother as they are swept up in the blast.
The flood are always a good enemy, seeing as they are probably still hidden away in the remaining halo rings. Not to mention the fact there are still 11 more rings out there if I counted correctly in the ark cutscene. And, it is possible the Forerunner are still alive, as the original halo was being reconstructed at the ark. It could be that the ark just knows that one was destroyed and remakes it automaticly, or that spark ordered it to be remade. Either way, Bungie needs to give us some closeur!

Fear not, as long as a company thinks it can make money on a game, they will keep making it.

it's odd that we can get freaked out by nonhorror games. i have one that effects me. not halo.
drakengard 1 and 2, 2 was a bit less intense and weird but when manah started to do her demonic voice, and the whole section after that i had a hard time going through.
and i'm sure i've mentioned it before chapter 11 to 12 in darkengard 1, i can't watch the opening cutscene called "a little thing" i went through that entire chapter on pins and needles, getting freaked out by everything that moved. i was more disturbed then pure fear, still had nightmares for a week.
but the darkengard series is just out there weird, i have to admit the company is very creative. and i actually like 1 more and that's the one that freaked me out. O_o so i can understand how games can get to ya at times. heck through most of half life 2 was jump scares. i wasn't used to scripted cutsences like that, and died because of a few. most out of surprise or i wasn't expecting it, portal is the same way. i had such a damn rush at the ending parts of portal 2, i cried for a god awful long time, i think it was mostly because at the end all the events happen so fast, my pulse was probably through the roof. it usually runs 100+, 127 was my highest in walmart.

Oort,
being a major fan of halo, i love speculating!
I think halo 4 will encompass a story relating to the the planet that the Chief was floating toward in the end of 3.
From its outward look, its seems to be a Forerunner Sheild world, which were proposed before the halos were built.
so from this, I think we'll be seeing more flood, as the forerunner loved studying them.
defo, return of Spark, or another monitor being introduced.
and the very real possiblity of a living Forerunner!
If you want an idea on things that might appear, i suggest, reading Halo Cryptum, it mentions the Halos and the flood war well.
