I have to admit, I took my sweet time in getting around to beating the main quest and did three revisions of my first character before starting a whole new one last night. Love the game, lots to be said in praise of it. At the same time, while I do agree with a lot of people here that it doesn't need a significantly bigger map or anything like that I dreampt up a few things that I was kind of looking for but didn't find:

1) Vampires could use their own guild and quest line; I love that they're there but there really isn't anything in the way of culture or perks aside from a constant cycling balance that you have to maintain.

2) Cooking - I like that you can do it but it would be great as some have suggested that you could make an art of it. Being able to play an intrument when you want might be neat as well.

3) More diversity for main character's responses - if you want them to go along the moral highground, moral low road, or somewhere in between its a bit unfortunate that if, say, you want to create a diabolically evil character you don't have the option of following through on that in dialog or having the game react in such a way.

4) Marriages are aweful. Having a spouse that talks back, challenges you and is either thrilled that you're there often and helping them (in ways you can tangibly see) or gets sarcastic/snarky when you've been heavily absenty, would be a plus. Being able to go out to eat with em, even sort of building your own quest line with them - its like actually having a spouse rather than an even more servile version of a house carl.

5) Your home - you can buy the decorations but decorate the shelves yourself and put things in their place or put them back rather than, say, if you run past a shelf and tip a vase you're never getting it back up there again. That and if you really could use a grand soul gem, don't have one, and would like to put it back in your enchanter's station when you get another done or just keep a basket full of filled stones convenient right there; you should have the option.

6) *REAL DUAL WIELD*

Anyone else have some other ideas? Think of it assuming another three or four years out and CPU/RAM/video card capacity withstanding the usual in-time improvement (in that sense you may not want to make the game twice as big but you could add some rather substantial touches without making the game unplayable on anything less than a $1500 computer).

Id like to see better walking animation in 1st person, a better camera point of view (detached from character's Z-plane) and a much, much better magic system.

1) Better combat. Combat in Skyrim still feels floaty with little discernible weight to any of the weapons. Enemies don't react to being hit like they should.

2) More meaningful and believable NPC interaction. I like having companions with you, but I don't like how they are virtually all identical to one another in terms of the interactions you can have with them once they can become your companion. It's also odd that some random warrior will volunteer to follow me wherever I go, risking death simply because I beat them in a fistfight challenge. Less companions but more meaningful interactions with them, with character based questlines would be welcome.

3) Less bugs.

4) Better scaling for higher end systems. At the resolutions PCs typically use, the distant terrain looks terrible. In particular, flowing water is rendered as a static, very low resolution texture which is extremely ugly and takes you out of the moment.

The ultimate thing I want is all of Tamriel to be accessible. Eventually the other continents mentioned in the ingame books as well (Akavir, Atmora, etc). There are a lot of places they could set the next game if not the entire world.

The civil war in Skyrim is a pretty interesting plot element but I found the battles to be very small scale in relation to what the objectives were. I think it would have been more interesting if every imperial/stormcloak fort needed to be taken besides the capital of each hold, and if there were more quests related to each hold's conquest. If there is a similar "choose a side" situation in the next game I hope it will have more in this regard

Food definetly needs a change, there was almost no reason for it, the health it heals is so minimal that you have to scoff an unrealistic amount to heal. I actually think that perhaps there could have been a hunger bar, where being full would have health, stamina and magica regenerate quickly, but when, but regenerate slowly and other things when starving.

Non-cliche main storyline.

@Bradleigh: You should be grateful food heals you at all. Doesn't make any sense in the first place.

They should have a hunger stat that alters your stamina. So when you're hungry you slow down, take more damage than usual, skills require more energy etc. Maybe this would be more important in something like Fallout where food ought to be a bit more scarce. I don't know. It's something I wouldn't mind seeing.

That is what I was talking about, useing them for potions in oblivion you could make something usefull, but a tomato soup is practicly useless in the idea of healing you. Farms grow food, wild animals's meat are food, bandit's hideouts have crates of it, but it is not worth collecting it all to sell, or to heal. There is enough to make it a semi necessary item, even vampires need to consume blood to stay healthy, and werewolves to stay in form, on that matter, maybe being able to store blood in bottles to keep vampirism under control over multiple days could be usefull.

Oh and the Thalmor have to have been brutaly slaughtered, and the High Elves are now a kind people.

I actually saw some speculation mentioned about the possibility that they may have patches or expansion packs eventually that would broaden the world. They were mentioning some stuff to the south, Cyrodil and Morrowind, as having more detail than the would have thought otherwise? It would be neat if they at least had an up-to-date version of some of the previous game's realms added in.

better modularity in magic and the chainging of attacks,

a possibility of developing a fighting stance and the ability to create magic made of stanzas or similar would be perfect.

always wanted a proper spear fighter but TES games have always been quite limited when it comes to close combat variety and feel.

The Empire should regain power under a new name/ruler and try to expand East to Akavar....thus, also introducing two-three new races.

This would allow for the opportunity for a slight addition to the magic/stamina/health systems by perhaps incorporating "chi" as another form of power, similar to how using "shouts" worked for the Dragonborn. The fighting system might even be overhauled/upgraded to fit this new setting as well. Scenery wise, the potential terrain of jungle, mountains, desert, and jade forests would make the game even more majestic than before.

The story could be something influenced by Journey to the West and Europe's attempts to open trade with the East....something giant, mystical, conspiracy plot along with a destiny plot. And we get to see the Blades arise once more.

Something to force me to play the main quest. I have played the Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion with all expansions, but despite playing the latter two for over 200 hours, I never managed to complete the main quest (except for the Shivering Isles). There is simply too much to keep me distracted. Why should I save the Empire when I can become the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood?

Im hoping their creation kit will be more user friendly than the one for oblivion. You need to be a programmer to understand that crap. They could literally crowdsource their content if they made it easy to use.

It's what makes Fallout: NLV more enjoyable to me then Skyrim.

Yes massive room for improvement. Check out Mount and Blade. Done by a husband and wife programmer team in Turkey. Has a much better combat system and you can fight on horseback as well.

Definatly.

Current high end PC's are being held hostage by the Xbox 360 and PS3 limitations. Morrowind was a port from PC to console. Oblivion and Skyrim have been the opposite in priority.

You need to get into the mod scence and find the high definition textures and mods it makes the game look much better. But each mod is down to personal taste.

Definatly! All the provinces with varying terrain, inhabitants and weather effects.

The combat between a dozen or so people at most is rather silly.

Again I refer to Mount and Blade in the vanilla game you can have 250 vs 250. with a mod you can increase it. On my system I can go up to 500 vs 500 before it starts getting unplayable and unstable

Check out the scale of the average battle on it. I dream of the day an Elder Scrolls Game can have battles of this scale. I'm suprised no one has done a Tamriel Total War mod yet

The more advanced you want to mod the more you will need to understand code

I think Bestheda are increasingly becoming more hostile to mods though similair to how creative assembly are with the total war series.

^^ I've been thinking about a Tamriel Total War mod a lot over the past few weeks since I bought Skyrim. How awesome would that be?

I hope Bethesda doesn't follow suit after CA in regards to modding. E:TW was supposed to have been hard to develop mods for. I have not tried any mods for any TW games surprisingly since its one of my top favorite franchises

Go back to the skills from Morrowind. Why trim down skills? There's no reason why Bethesda should keep dumbing things down! We gamers aren't stupid! We can learn more complex skill trees if you'd just let us.

Also, if you're going to keep things in Tamriel, give us a game set in Summerset Isle (or whatever the new regime there's calling it now), Valenwood, Elsweyr, and Black Marsh. If not, give us a game set in Akavir for once. I'd love nothing more than to see Nirn beyond Tamriel! Maybe even more planes of Oblivion besides the Shivering Isles, the Deadlands, and (from Redguard) Clavicus Vile's realm.

Give us back spellmaking. That was the fun thing about Oblivion--there wasn't a single spell you couldn't make more effective by making it yourself! (An exception: Wizard's Fury. It was a leveled spell you got in the Mages' Guild quest line that did fire, frost, and shock damage. Its magicka cost was less than what it'd take to make the same spell yourself.) There was no good reason to take that away from us. It's a giant middle finger to Elder Scrolls fans everywhere.

They probably should make better ability to make magic in the next game, magic was always supposed to be so little in Skyrim as Nords have always had a hate of magic.
