While it looks good, I've seen a lot of games have too much hype based on very little... and to base this much hype on not even actual gameplay videos, I'm not going to get hyped til I see more. As much as I like Bungie and all... I'd rather not get too hyped up only to later get disappointed if the gameplay, etc doesn't live up to the hype the preliminary videos about the game are.

I'm not sure Mass Effect is the right comparison, as those are more story-driven dialogue heavy and that doesn't seem to be the route this is going.

I've seen some previewers, based on the descriptions provided by Bungie, refer to this as being somewhere between Halo, Borderlands, and Planetside. Which that is something I can certainly get behind. I imagine its going to feel similar to Halo, in terms of things like movement, shooting mechanics, and vehicle physics, but now with loot and significantly more online focus, riding the line between MMO and the social features of Dark Souls. Overall it sounds really ambitious and I hope that we get to see a significant amount of gameplay at E3.

But really, if anyone can deliver on the promises being made, Bungie can do it. Only companies I would put higher than them in terms of an overall combination of talent and production values would be Valve and certain development teams at Nintendo, Rockstar would be up there too, Blizzard used to be. Basically, this isn't some startup indie studio making grandiose promises and biting off more than they can chew.

At least Peter Moleyneux isn't involved, thats one person you can always trust to not deliver on the hype.

You mean besides all the promises they made about Halo before it ended up being a regular old FPS that was exclusive to XBox (until the eventual PC version, at least)? ;)

I still believe Bungie could have delivered on those promises if the game had stayed a PC/Mac release. Microsoft wanted a showcase game for its Xbox, which unfortunately meant a change in direction for Halo when Microsoft bought Bungie between having to work within console limitations and not having access to an online service at launch.
