How do I access co-op partners inventory? MGS Peace Walker h

I've looked pretty much everywhere on the internet as well as in the manual and can not find a single thing on this. I'm trying to use the Railgun but can't seem to be able to give the Dynamo to him. I've seen it done in a video but don't know how it's done myself. I'm playing the Xbox 360 version so I don't know if they've changed anything about it?
