So, Blizzcon 2013 has just come and gone over the weekend and Blizzard has announced their new World of Warcraft expansion. Now, I've never played WoW because I never wanted to pay a subscription to play a MMORG and, as an old Warcraft fan, I didn't really like what they were doing to the old Warcraft heroes and villains just to suit the MMORG genre. However, this expansion is a bit different and while I still probably won't play WoW, this has gotten me a bit interested. Apparently, since Blizzard believes that the majority WoW players haven't played the previous Warcraft RTS games, they've decided re-tell some of the story in the original Warcraft RTS's in this new expansion and they're bringing back the old Warcraft 2 orcish horde for it too. If you know the stories of Warcraft 1 and 2, which were released in 1994 and 1995 respectively, you'd know that Draenor was the original homework of the orcs before Medivh brought them to Azeroth by first opening the dark portal. The world of Draenor was destroyed though after Ner'Zhul (yes, it's the same Ner'Zhul that became the first Lich King in Warcraft 3) tried to open numerous portals to other worlds that they could conquer from Draenor in a desperate attempt to escape the demons (Burning Legion) and save the orcs in "Beyond the Dark Portal", which was the expansion set to Warcraft 2. As discovered in the Warcraft 3 expansion "Frozen Throne", parts of Draenor had survived as was now known as Outland.

It seems like this whole expansion is a time-travel scenario. The reason they were able to bring back the old Draenor, pre-destruction, is that following the end of Mists of Pandaria, Garrosh Hellscreem was somehow able to escape his trial and was aided by some time-traveller friend who created a portal connection between the past pre-destruction Draenor with the present day Azeroth. Garosh's goal in Draenor is apparently to change the timeline so as to prevent the orcs from drinking the Blood of Manneroth, so as to prevent the corruption of the Horde by the Burning Legion but is also trying to forge a new horde out of the old Draenor clans called the Iron Horde so that when they invade Azeroth for the first time, this time they'll beat the Alliance. They'll be bringing back old characters from the Warcraft 1 and 2 in this expansion including Ner'Zhul (as his old orcish self from Warcraft 2), Kargath Bladefist, Gul'dan and Blackhand.

Nobody plays World of Warcraft? I don't believe that, there were tons of responses to an older thread made by someone else a few years ago about the Mists of Pandaria expansion.

So basically we're going to see a pre-destruction Draenor filled with hordes of (player-controlled) Pandas. Sounds like a potential storyline train wreck to me. But I stopped playing Warcraft before Mists of Pandaria, so I can't say I really care too much about what they do with it personally.

Just when I thought the franchise couldn't get any more bizarre. . . It seems like an eternity since the days of Azeroth and the First War.

They said that they were thinking about it but I doubt they'll make another Warcraft RTS as long as World of Warcraft remains popular.

Well, I think that Warcraft has always been fantasy with some sci-fi elements in it, even in Warcraft 1, when the account of the First War was given, although most of the sci-fi elements were always explained as "magic" rather than "science" as it would be in actual sci-fi story. It's been confirmed that the changes that Garosh makes to timeline won't affect the original time-line though and that the new dark portal through which the Iron Horde will invade Azeroth will connect to the present day Azeroth.

I have got to agree, I stopped playing WoW about a year before MoP. Some aspects of Cata were good but they ruined some of the landscapes and patch 4.3(fire one i think) completely messed up the way quests work forever, in my opinion. In truth, i loved wrath, data was doable and MoP made me want to vomit(even the cool new dragon mount).

Now they are ruining the one area that remained pure and beautiful in the game, which i had enjoyed 10 wonderful levels in. Now, WoW is nothing like it was back in vanilla and it all seems like such a shame.

I would like them to run a variety of servers: vanilla, BC, wrath, data, MoP, and Draenor. Then, i may go back.

I'm not sure but I thought that Draenor was a new a area entirely built up from scratch rather than a revamp of Outland if that's what you're talking about. So, the old Outland zones will still be the same and you'd still be able to the quests in them.

Sorry, I must have misinterpreted it. That makes it slightly less painful.

You like the Pandarens? I thought that many people hated them.

I was joking. Whoever thought a Kung Fu Panda expansion for WoW was a good idea had some serious weed and Cheetos one night.

I will probably still end up playing tons of it love MMOs and I have just put to much time and gotten to know to many people over the years to start fresh in another MMO. Missed large chunks of Cata and almost all of MoP just hope I can get done with school before the next Xpac.

The lore is botched I stopped caring when Cata happened. Only lore stuff that could get me interested again is more stuff on the Titans and Old gods.
