LadyWoofWoof's favorite are the Dark Eldar, she greatly enjoys playing with the Chaos Space Marines as well.

:-) Necrons also, and I'll occasionally play as the daemons.

WH40K for the win !

Well, more accurately I *would* play as the daemons more often except it seems to me (and many others) like Games Workshop have deliberately made them incredibly sucky with the latest rule changes. A bunch of units are a great deal crappier than they used to be (yes pink horrors, I am looking at you !) , and they still have an excessive quantity of luck factor stuff compared to any other army.

GW have also introduced this whole new fliers concept ... but without deigning to give the daemons even one measly flier. Which well, if that's not deliberately making the daemons the least playable army ever then I have no idea what is. It's not like any of their anti-air capabilities are remotely good enough to damage most fliers much. And since it's only recently that their new codex came out, then it won't even be a case of the codex being out of date but people just holding out until GW bother to update the daemon army rules to be in line with 6th edition.

It sucks, because the daemons could have been entertaining to play as sometimes if it weren't for that. I like their soul grinders, and would have liked to play with a squadron of screamers some time.
:?

So until GW sort that junk out (introduce a new couple of flier daemons or something) , necrons , dark eldar and CSM are the way to go for me.

I was going to say don't you have the heldrake....and then I remember that is for the chaos space marines
With the current allied chart they have, ally with Chaos space marines. That way you get the heldrake. That's how I got a Landraider, have a inquisition detachment.
I have also heard that Deamons have some of the best ballistic skill in the game. Stick some deamons behind a aegis defense line with a quad gun to shoot down fliers.
But that's just how I would see it.

I picked up a starter set quite some time ago, and painted my first model only a couple months ago. I have the rule book, but it's quite bigger than I imagined. I figure I would need someone to get me into it and teach me all the ropes.

Unfortunately, I've basically given up hope. I live in the country. The few people that don't think you're a child for playing games only know what Call of Duty/Halo and Madden are.

But the models are really cool looking. I had hoped to get into it some day. Maybe some day I still can, if I get better at painting. XD

What's the deal with Forgeworld stuff ?
There are no rules for their models in the codexes, so are they legitimate to use in games ?

Have you considered learning / playing over the internet, using Vassal ?

Forge World material is a very hot button subject, and has been for some time. The answer varies somewhere between the following variables -

- Finding a book that has the rules (usually one of the Imperial Armor books).
- Your gaming group's opinion on Forge World models.
- If it's Horus Heresy or not (this one we can point to and specifically say no you can't take this into a normal 40K game on the grounds it's designed to be played with the other armies in the HH range - sorry Mechanicum players!). That said, this can be overridden by Variable 2.

Forgeworld release giant books called Imperial Armour. Each book has rules for units and different army lists. Like Helixshade said, Forgeworld is a hot button issue. Many groups do not like forgeworld due to cost of units, difficulty to get rules, and how the units and rules are not FAQed by GW directly. At least I think that is why people do not like forgeworld.
