now, this one sounds more dire than sad, but i fell in love with this one a while ago, saw it on a youtube poop clip (linkondrugs), searched it and... just wish it was a bit longer, though.
gotta love that piano bit. as the sole comment said, creepy during a thunderstorm, and i concur. it's supposed to rain tomorrow...

Track03 (Or the ambience that plays in Level 3: Toxin Refinery) from the PSX DooM Soundtrack sounded really depressing and sad. It first starts out as a generic rumbling ambience with some weird vocal noises here and there, but then there's these really dissonant and depressing whistle sounds which can make you feel oddly sad from how it sounds. Overall, it's a saddening but awesome ambient piece (Aubrey Hodges is a bloody genius in his ambient works for DooM and Quake) that really sets the atmosphere playing DooM with the PSX TC or on the actual Playstation 1 Game.

In particular, the ambience at the 5 and a half to 7 minute section sounds really... down, like it just gives you the feeling something tragic has happened in your life and there's a burden of depression laying over you. It's a really powerful track, especially if you are easily emotional.

Final Fantasy Tactics

While this particular track brings with it the potential for sadness, it also brings great determination. To rise against all odds. Such was the case throughout this game. This was one of my all time favorite games. It is quite possibly one of the best ever made. I greatly miss the games of the past.

This is what it sounds like when the world is in ruins, your girlfriend has been shot and you're starring in an 8-bit game, so you know the enemies won't roll over and die like in today's games.

This song really brings the phrase "hopeless mission" to mind.

The Metal Gear games have a few saddish songs now that I think about it. I need a way to rip this track for X360 mixes, as it is is evidently unavailable from the soundtrack CD.
