Ever cheated at a game?
I assume everyone has at some point. I find cheating usually ruins a game really quick. I do however enjoy cheesing, finding exploits or bugs on my own instead of reading about them online. It doesn't take skill to enter cheat codes you found online but it takes skill to find exploits on your own in games that you play.
So you wouldn't believe me if I told you I beat the first 2 episodes of Doom & the main episode of Doom II without cheats? I don't even know how I pulled it off either....
Try finishing "Thy Flesh Consumed" on Ultra-Violence without cheats.
Did it on Chocolate Doom, with keyboard only controls to boot.

Currently I'm playing through Doom II on the original DOS engine, with a WASD+mouse setup. It turns out John Romero himself played with a keyboard+mouse combo back in the 90s, and you don't need to be using a different engine to map things to WASD. To remap things in the Steam version however, you need access to a good text editor and a keycodes table, since they left out SETUP.EXE. Still no vertical mouselook, jumping, or cheats, but damn does this work better than keyboard only. Doom II is a lot tougher than Doom 1, or even Thy Flesh Consumed, and I can't see myself beating it any other way.
You could try running it on ZDoom instead, that one's ALOT better than the Steam version. It's compatible with Doom, Doom 2, Heretic, Hexen, and who knows what else. It has stuff like the vertical mouselook and jumping and basically every other possible thing.

Why would I want to do that? Playing with mouselook and jumping is basically cheating. Plus, ZDoom doesn't even have the same feel as the vanilla Doom engine. I should know, when I was younger and didn't care so much, I played Skulltag all the time.

I could agree with that for the most part. Well, as the controls go anyway. Sort of. I need a gamepad myself.
Mostly though I just use it for the resolution, which is higher. The original hyper-low resolution (or at least, that's what Steam's normal versions of the game give me for any of those games) are a headache waiting to happen. That and a few less quirky issues and bugs.
But some people like the mouse look thing. I dont see the point of vertical mouselook myself, there's no point. Your guy automatically aims vertically already when firing.
Jumping seems pointless too; there's no holes to jump over. I've mostly been playing Hexen myself, which has jumping by default. Or, I SAY "jumping", but I really mean "awkwardly hopping to your doom". I swear, anytime you find yourself needing to jump in that game, ya better have saved your game first.
Now, HORIZONTAL mouselook for Doom, that one I can understand, since it's just.... less annoying.
Now as for cheating in games as a whole, I myself dont do it; no challenge out of a game = me being really bored. I did it some as a kid though, to an extent, though this didnt last very long. In particular I remember playing through Final Fantasy 6 (well, it was number 3 here, haha) and killing every boss in like 2 turns with the old invisibility + X-zone trick. At the time, I'm sure this made total sense.
It seemed stupider though when I went back to the game MUCH later, playing through it properly.... to discover just how damn EASY it is. I mean, it's a Square game, most of them are, but still.
As cheating goes though overall while I myself may not do it I generally dont care if others do.... unless it's a multiplayer game. I cant stand anyone that does that. It ruins things for everyone else!

I still use the mouse to aim horizontally in Doom, as it's something the original engine allows. As far as the resolution goes, I don't necessarily mind how 320x200 looks, however the way Steam has it set up by default looks horrible. One of the first things I did when I installed Doom II was replace the DosBox executable with version 0.74 (they still use 0.72!! ! WTF?!??!), then make some tweaks to the doom2m.conf file. I set the fullresolution line to 0x0, which matches DosBox's rendering to your desktop resolution, then I set the scaler to rgb2x, which sort of makes it look like I'm playing on a crappy old CRT.

I'm sorta cheating right now playing Skyrim... So much console command fun like giving me 50 K gold, god mode, and increasing my size by 100 times so I can run extremely fast and leap right over mountains. Pretty amusing too when you're a 500 foot tall giant mounting your horse xD

I finally decided to "bite the bullet" and get an Action Replay last week for DQ9 so that I could give myself some of the famous grottoes and to enable the WFC flags. Grinding was just taking far too long, and it was impossible for me to 100% complete the game without cheating because you could only get certain items by connecting to WFC.
