Videogames are supposed to compliment life not replace it.
I tried escaping into videogames to escape my worries in life in my 20's, it is an outright dead-end that makes you feel worse.
Try working on hobbies, working out, eating right, and THEN reward yourself with videogames at the end of your day. Then videogames will feel more like relaxation than an escape, and you'll be more moderate with it. This applies to also everything else in life, don't run from life, accept hard to accept facts and work with them instead of against, through this you'll find peace and no longer try to find that escape. At the end of the day we have to live in this world, there is no escaping this no matter how hard we try. The good news is that once you accept it then you can start to make some serious work and headway towards proper goals, but it takes a lot of patience. Which is contrary to our culture today and videogames themselves tend to reward us with immediate gratification, so upfront it gives us a feel-good feeling but in the end we're all the worse for it. It doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy videogames it just means you have to put them in the proper context and the 'escapism' context is no good. There's no running from life, sooner or later it will creep through your door and strangle you.
Wize words.
Sometimes when one has had a hard day these video games can be ideal as one can have a couple of hours of "Grrr" by shooting everyone or racing cars or some amusing game that can relieve some stress. But it is too easy to then need that every time and while for short periods it may work... One can get too dependent and spend day and night on them... And then the thrill of playing them no longer appeals, as one is using a false world to look for the solutions to the real world situations.
So by all means enjoy gaming. Why... That't what it's there for! I personally stay away from the dark demonic stuff... I loved the racing games or the shoot each other games (Not the gorey onss or the ones with swearing in them which is really uncalled for).
Anyway... Use them to enjoy but make sure you have a hobby or three outside the electronic games... Something creative and innocent to enjoy.
