Checkers, Risk, Monopoly, Twister (well not so much a board game), Scrabble, and Game of Life were my favorites.

Do you prefer European games then?
There are some cool small games like Clans, Hellas, Java, and of course classics like Go, is that what you mean?

I really like Euro games. I'm of the opinion that realism shouldn't get in the way of a good gameplay mechanic.

I haven't played any of those mentioned... besides Go, but I only played that once. And was basically punched in the face when I did.

I like Go, and would like to play it more...

It's tricky though, too much abstraction... and it's hard to get a good sense of what is even going on.

Which is why I like Puerto Rico and Settlers, they are abstract... but you still have a framework of what you are supposed to be doing.

My favorite game is a variation of Battleship called Dark Battleship. You get 3 shots per round, but you don't get told when you sink your opponent's ships. I also like Backgammon.

I have some pretty rare ones. The mummy's tomb, for example.
Never was a big fan, but I can't pass up a cheap used game.

It's ok. A little small and abstract,

The less games are based on reality, the better for me. I live to form abstractions...

I really like to play out the events in my mind
(while stimming). It's like watching a movie.

As to abstractions, you should take up Go.
All things can be learned through it.

I like board games because of all the rules, optimization of moves and shiny pieces, but never have anyone to play with. I played a few games against myself a few years ago, but that becomes to predictable soon. ^^ Now I just collect rules and design some mechanics myself.

having three siblings, my mother always tried to keep us occupied by making us play board games and card games...my favourite had to be trivial pursuit...mainly because i was the best at knowing the most redundant things. i found that my weath of useless information came in handy for something...lol!

I have Family Guy Monopoly, and it's fun.

I use to play board games quite a bit when I was younger. I still have a great number of them in the house. I liked monopoly, candyland, battleship, scrabble, trouble, chutes & ladders and I played some others but I cannot recall all of them at the moment.

I also liked making up my own games as a kid. Unfortunately it was a pain getting my parents to play my games with me.
